Though there seem to be conflicting stories in the case, what is clear is that Mixon’s involvement in the terrible shooting incident could well see him facing serious charges if he’s convicted.

Joe Mixon named in a civil suit

According to reports, Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon has been named in a civil lawsuit in connection with his sister’s boyfriend, Lamonte Brewer, allegedly shooting a teenage neighbor of Mixon’s. Where Mixon himself is concerned, the lawsuit states that the weapon and bullets used in the incident belonged to and were provided by Mixon. As for Brewer, it is understood that he has been accused of using an assault rifle to shoot 11 rounds at the minor in question. One of those rounds struck the victim in his right foot. Additionally, the suit also alleges that Mixon and Brewer were aware that the teen and his friends were playing Nerf wars near Mixon’s property at the time of the shooting. Indeed, one of the bullets fired allegedly struck the teen’s Nerf gun.

What else do we know about Joe Mixon’s role in the shooting incident?

To be clear, the lawsuit argues that Mixon and Brewer should not “have reasonably felt that their lives were in danger” due to the aforementioned fact that they were aware the teens were playing a game. It is alleged that Mixon brandished a 9mm semi-automatic pistol at the time of the shooting, however, he did not fire a shot and so, was not charged. Indeed, Hamilton County Prosecutor, Melissa Powers, stated that the Bengals running back “did not commit a crime.” Incidentally, Mixon’s agent has since stated that his client actually attempted to prevent Brewer from firing at the teen.

If you missed our previous report, Brewer was in fact indicted back on March 16th on felony charges of assault, having a weapon under disability, tampering with evidence, and obstructing justice. Further to that, Mixon’s sister, Shalonda Mixon, was indicted on charges of tampering with evidence and obstructing justice. Sadly, this is not the first time in the year that Mixon has been in the headlines for the wrong reason. Back in February, the 28-year-old had a warrant issued for his arrest after he allegedly pointed a gun at a woman with whom he had an argument. It should be said that the charges against him were later dropped.
