Though it was his sibling and her partner who were involved in the disturbing situation, Mixon’s presence does indeed present some degree of uncertainty about exactly what happened and more importantly, why?

Joe Mixon’s sister and partner indicted in shooting

According to reports, Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon’s sister and her boyfriend have been indicted in connection with a shooting which occurred on March 6th, in Anderson Township in Ohio. It is understood, that the partner in question, Lamonte Brewer, has been charged with felonious assault, tampering with evidence and having weapons under disability, while Mixon’s sister, Shalonda Mixon, has been charged with tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice. Incidentally, prosecutor Melissa Powers stated that Joe Mixon did in fact have a weapon at the time of the shooting but did not fire it nor did he commit any crime.

What has Joe Mixon said?

While Mixon himself did not comment, his agent, Peter Schaffer, did provide a statement in which he explained that Mixon had returned from California on the day of the shooting. He also added that Mixon and his physical therapist observed people running through the neighborhood, with what appeared to be firearms. Schaffer also added that his client was not guilty of any wrongdoing.

“Joe hates that a young adult was injured during this incident. He has been involved in youth activities in various capacities since joining the Bengals and calling Cincinnati home. His goal has always been to help our youth, not harm them,” the statement reads in part.

What do we know about the shooting involving Mixon’s sister?

In her comments, Powers stated that multiple juveniles were playing dart wars and that Brewer and others should have been able to tell that the juveniles were carrying toy weapons as opposed to actual firearms. Adding further weight, is the fact that it’s quite common for students in the area to organize ‘dart wars,’ wherein pairs of teams take on each other. They shoot at each other with the popular foam dart guns to earn points, with the eventual winners or top teams splitting the entry fees between them. Regarding Brewer’s actions, the prosecutor indicated that a Zastava pistol was used, which is a weapon similar in nature to an AK-47 and does indeed carry the same round.

To make matters worse, it is understood that Brewer and Shalonda Mixon have not been arrested and at present, authorities remain unaware of their whereabouts. Powers also added that Brewer has a “lengthy criminal record which includes both drug and weapons offenses in addition to “offenses of violence.” Joe Mixon is known to have been in the yard with Brewer at the time, however, the latter acted independently.
