Update:

The Buffalo Bills have fired head coach Sean McDermott, according to multiple reports. The decision comes after Saturday’s 33-30 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the Divisional Round, which extends the Bills’ long wait for a first-ever Super Bowl.

McDermott’s Bills record

McDermott leaves Buffalo after nine seasons, in eight of which he led the team to the postseason. The outgoing coach had an impressive 98-50 record during his time in charge, with eight of his victories coming in the postseason. However, the Bills failed to win a Conference Championship or reach the Super Bowl in that time.

Painful playoff defeats

The team also endured some painful playoff defeats along the way. Against the Broncos on Saturday, the Bills surrendered a fourth quarter lead for a third postseason running.

McDermott has ultimately paid the price for being unable to get over the final hurdle.

Who could replace McDermott as Bills head coach?

It is too early to know who is most likely to replace McDermott in Buffalo, but Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, former Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel, ex-Jets head coach Robert Saleh, Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, former Falcons head coach Raheem Morris and Packers DC Jeff Hafley are among the names that have been linked with other vacant positions in the league.
