The Buffalo Bills have finally come to an agreement with star running back James Cook after a long contract standoff during the offseason. Here are the details of his new extension.

James Cook’s new contract with Bills

After going back and forth all offseason with the Bills’ front office, the team finally agreed to terms on an extension for Cook. He is reportedly signing a four-year, $48 million contract with $30 million in guaranteed money.

The deal earns him an average annual salary of $12 million, tied with Green Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs as the sixth highest-paid running back in the league. It will keep him in Buffalo through the 2028 season.

This concludes a long saga in which Cook made his desire to earn what he felt he was worth be known, and intended to sit out of training camp until he did. On Tuesday, however, he returned to practice for the first time, leading many to believe the deal was imminent - and so it was.

Cook has indeed proven his worth, logging over 1,000 rushing yards in the last two seasons as well as a career-high 16 touchdowns last year.

The Bills are now all set to begin the 2025 season on Sunday, September 7 with a home game against the Baltimore Ravens in prime time.
