Damar Hamlin remains “in critical condition with signs of improvement noted yesterday and overnight,” the Buffalo Bills announced in a statement Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. ET. The second-year Bills safety “is expected to remain under intensive care as his health care team continues to monitor and treat him,” they added.

Hamlin went into cardiac arrest on Monday during Buffalo’s Week 17 game against the Bengals, in Cincinnati.

Hamlin’s cardiac arrest happened after he tackled Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins and shortly attempted to adjust his facemask before collapsing on the field. Medical personnel quickly administered CPR on the 24-year-old and gave him oxygen before transporting him to a local hospital.

The NFL game was called off later.

Hamlin is in his second season with Buffalo after being selected by the franchise in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has played in 15 games this season, with 13 starts, recording 91 tackles (six for loss), 1.5 sacks, three quarterback hits, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
