More bad news came after the Cowboys' loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday as that game saw several key players exit early with injuries. However, one other player may finally be making his return this week as Dallas prepares for their NFC East showdown against the Washington Commanders this Sunday.

Brandin Cooks update

Wide receiver Brandin Cooks may be finally making his return to the field this Sunday. Cooks has been out since Week 4’s win over the Giants, when he sustained a knee infection after having a procedure in New York. He is still on Injured Reserve, but head coach Mike McCarthy is optimistic about his return this week.

The Cowboys will need to open his 21-day evaluation window first and see how he does in practice this week, but McCarthy’s comments suggest that Cooks is improving.

Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer thinks Cooks would make an immediate impact if he’s able to return this week.

“It would be awesome to have him out there. I know he’s itching to get back out there,” Schottenheimer said. “We’ll be smart with him and see how he does throughout the week, but in terms of Brandin being Brandin, I don’t think there’ll be any question he’ll be ready to play, and when his number’s called, he’ll make plays for us like he always does.

Before his injury, Cooks had nine catches for 91 yards and a touchdown through the first four games. The Cowboys are now at 3-7 without much to play for as they head into their Week 12 game against the Commanders, so there’s no rush to get Cooks back at this point. So depending on how he does in practice, the Cowboys could still choose to play it safe with him.
