During the Cowboys’ first preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, Dallas failed to score a single touchdown. They did, however, score 12 points thanks to four successful field goals by trusty kicker Brandon Aubrey. The Cowboys ended up losing the game 13-12 in the last seconds. Still, it was good to see that their gem of a find in Aubrey remains a gem.

Aubrey, a new father

Aubrey was one of the few starters to play in Dallas’ preseason game, as he remains the sole kicker on the Cowboys roster. After putting up another stellar performance, however, Aubrey left that game in a big hurry. His wife was just about to give birth to their first child back in Dallas.

In a very cute Instagram post a few months ago, Aubrey revealed the gender of his baby to his teammates, who excitedly ate cupcakes in anticipation of finding out if it’s a girl or boy.

It’s a boy!

Aubrey looks to have another busy season this year on and off the field. At this time last year, the Cowboys had not settled on a kicker and eventually signed Aubrey from the UFL with barely any experience in football - he’d been a soccer player the majority of his life.

It turned out to be one of the best decisions the Cowboys made that year. The rookie made 36 of 38 field goal attempts and 49 of his 52 extra point kicks, earning him a Pro Bowl nod. He also showed off his incredible range, making 100% of his attempts of 50 yards or longer.

Thankfully, Aubrey won’t be gone long. He’s not back in Oxnard just yet, but is expected to make his return to practice this week.
