On Wednesday, Washington Commanders’ running back Brain Robinson made his first visit to the team’s facility since his release from the hospital.

Offensive tackle Charles Leno told media members that football does not matter right now.

“It’s a difficult thing,” Leno said. “It was very shocking news that we all received.”

What happened to Brian Robinson?

On Aug. 28, Robinson was shot twice after an attempted robbery in northeast Washington, D.C. Fortunately, the running back has been having a good recovery following a successful surgery.

Leno and the rest of his teammates know Robinson will be back on the field eventually, but for the time being, they are more concerned about his mental health and needs.

“We just care about him as a person,” Leno said. “We care about his livelihood. We care about his mental health. We care about all those things … Now, we just hope the best for him.”

Additionally, the Commanders have placed Robinson on the reserve list with no timeline for his recovery.

According to reports, the bullet that went through Robinson’s knee did not impose any structural damage, which is relieving for everyone, especially the Commanders.

Speaking of the traumatic experience, Leno said that he wants Robinson to know that “people care about him and people are here for him,” adding that his mental recovery is just as important to Washingston.

“It was great” to see Robinson back at the facility, who was able to personally thank his teammates for their support. According to head coach Ron Rivera, “it was an emotional moment.”

“Robinson is alive”

“When they actually got to see him, I think that really kind of put a lot of their minds at ease,” Rivera said.

While Leno acknowledged that Robinson is “a hell of a football player” who will fortunately be able to continue doing what he loves, which is being a teammate, he stressed that the most important factor now is that he can continue being a brother and a son to his family.

“Robinson is alive… he’s such a great young man,” Leno added. “He just has this spirit about him, just this uplifting spirit, and I love everything about him.”
