Who accused Jerry Jeudy, why was he released and why were charges dropped?
After what appears to have been a ‘disagreement’ between him and his girlfriend which escalated non violently, the Broncos wide out is now free and fine.
In a fortunate turn of events for the Broncos wide receiver, he has now been released after spending one night in police custody.
Broncos’ Jerry Jeudy released by police
Just when it seemed that Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was likely facing a dark future where his career was concerned, it now seems things may in fact work out. Good thing too as the Broncos are currently in the midst of integrating their new quarterback Russell Wilson - a former Super Bowl winner - which is something that Jeudy was all to happy to be a part of. As was widely reported on Thursday, the former first round draft pick was arrested in Colorado by the Arapahoe Sheriff’s Department on charges of second-degree criminal tampering as part of a domestic violence case.
With that said, reports on Friday have now indicated that after a court appearance on Friday, Jeudy was granted a $1,500 personal recognizance bond and was due to be released later in the day. Interestingly, though there is a temporary protection order in place such that neither party can have contact with the other, Jeudy’s accuser actually stated in court that she was not seeking a no-contact order. It is understood that no plea was registered.
Jerry Jeudy’s accuser drops the charges against him
On Thursday the particulars of exactly what happened between Jeudy and his accuser were made clear. Indeed, following his arrest, Sheriff Tyler Brown of the Araphoe Sheriff’s Department disclosed that the accuser was in fact the mother of Jeudy’s 1-month-old daughter. It should be noted that according to Brown there was no physical contact made in the incident, but Jeudy’s accuser indicated that the Broncos’ player was in possession of her property and that she was unable to access it. As a result she requested police presence in the name of a “keep the peace” scenario.
Jeudy’s accuser also went on to say in court that she wanted the charges dropped, explaining that her call to police was simply to request that the scenario in question be monitored by law enforcement officials and that she did not view Jeudy as a threat when things became more volatile. Despite that, Araphoe County police described in their report a moment where “things got crazy,” when Jeudy apparently took the wallet of his child’s mother, along with the medical paperwork for their child as well as other items and placed them in his car.
What now for Jerry Jeudy?
When he was arrested on Thursday morning just outside of Denver, the 23 year old was charged with second-degree criminal tampering which indicates interference with another person’s private property “with intent to cause injury, inconvenience or annoyance,” as was previously reported. The charge, a misdemeanor, includes a “domestic violence enhancer,” which of course is for the purpose of indicating Jeudy’s relation to his accuser. It is understood that during this time Jeudy can travel, but he will be expected to appear before a judge for his next hearing which is scheduled for May 31st.
Drafted 15th overall in 2020 the young wide out was actually very focused on the upcoming season as he was participated in all of the Broncos’ voluntary workouts and mini-camp to build a relationship with Russell Wilson. With 90 catches across 1,323 yards in two NFL seasons, Jeudy is widely expected to be Wilson’s #1 target this season coming. Luckily for the Broncos and Jeudy himself, it now seems that may still be the case as the young and promising talent is no worse for wear and seemingly free to go back to his life and career.
