The rumor persists and so do the former coach’s denials, but is there any truth the notion that he didn’t get along with Tom Brady?

The rumors surrounding Tom Brady and Bruce Arians

If there was one constant during the last NFL season and to a lesser extent this offseason, it was the rumors surrounding the relationship between former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians and star quarterback Tom Brady. Indeed, many reports suggested that there was an out right rift between the two. For his part Arians has always maintained that the rumors were exactly that, rumors. That being said, the chatter definitely intensified when Brady announced his retirement only to state he was returning shortly after, which in turn was then followed by Arians announcing that he would in fact be retiring.

Bruce Arians says there is no problem with Tom Brady

Though Arians is gone and Brady is back, one can imagine that the questions have still been raised. Even as the Bucs start their next chapter under newly appointed head coach Now Todd Bowles, it would seem the relationship between the two remains under scrutiny given the aforementioned sequence of events. Yet perhaps we can now lay the whole conversation to rest after Arians’ comments on Sunday. When questioned about his relationship with Brady, Arians stated that the relationship is as great as it has always been and even went on to add that the QB had sent him a retirement gift. “Tom just sent me a picture [Sunday]. He got a present for me. It’s a $50,000 watch. He says he’s bringing it to me,” Arians explained. “Who does that if we hate each other? As soon as he’s back in town, we’ll play golf.”

Bruce Arians knows people will still talk

If there are two things that Arians made clear when speaking about the speculation surrounding his relationship with Tom Brady, the first is that regardless of what is said or done, people are still going to talk. The second is that he’s unconcerned about any of it. “It’s never going to go away, no matter what anyone says,” Arians said. “It’s a national narrative that they think they know, but they don’t.” If anything, there is consistency in what Arians has said over time regarding the relationship. “Tom was very in favor of what I’m doing. I mean, I had conflicts with every player I coached because I cussed them all out, including him. Great relationship off the field,” Arians once said.

Is there truth in the Brady vs Arians rumor?

It’s important to note when considering the whole scenario, that where the rumors are concerned, they were never about whether the pair liked each other, but rather focused on if they could coexist in the same professional environment. Indeed, the doubts arise from the manner in which Bruce Arians responded to former NFL player Rich Ohrnberger’s claim that there was a toxic relationship between Brady and Arians. More over the basis for the negativity was said to be strategy related, something that the pair allegedly could not agree on. Whatever the case, it would seem that Bruce Arians is sticking to his version of events, can we expect a response for TB12 in the near future?
