Tampa Bay Buccaneers 19 - Dallas Cowboys 3, summary: score, stats, highlights | NFL Week 1
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (19) at Dallas Cowboys (3): LIVE
FINAL: Buccaneers defeat Cowboys 19-3
The Cowboys had one field goal on their opening drive and never did anything on offense again. The defense dominated the game on both sides of the ball. Though the Bucs were able to get four field goals, they only got one touchdown. The Cowboys offense has been a concern leading up to the regular season, and those fears were realized in this game.
Bucs WR Chris Godwin started the game, but quickly tweaked that same injury he was out with for so long. It was WR Mike Evans who got the only TD of the night. Kicker Ryan Succop missed one 36-yard field goal, but made the rest of his four attempts.
For the Cowboys, Micah Parsons got a few sacks on Brady and their new kicker Brett Maher made his one field goal attempt from 51 yards. Connor McGovern left the game in the first half with what is thought to be a high ankle sprain - more bad news for the o-line. Their No. 1 wide receiver CeeDee Lamb missed a few passes that should've been caught and the rest of the core's inexperience showed. QB Dak Prescott's hand bent a bit tooo far backwards on a pass late in the 4th quarter and backup Cooper Rush came in to take over. He was sacked a few times and went for it on 4th down a few times, making it once on a pass to TE Dalton Schultz, but nothing came of it. The penalties continue to be an issue for Dallas and it looks like it's going to be a long season for the Cowboys.
Prescott is out indefinitely after an injury to his hand caused the need for surgery on his right thumb.

The one-and-only TD of the night
An impressive one-handed catch by Mike Evans gave the Bucs their first and only touchdown against the Cowboys.
Rush makes the pass to Schultz for a gain of 13, which brings them to 4th and 12. They go for it, but it's too short. Tampa gets the ball back and takes the knee, and that's game, folks.

Prescott pass complete to WR Noah Brown gives the Cowboys a gain of 23 and a 1st down - they desperately need to do something on offense. If nothing else, to save them from the embarrassment of only having a field goal on the opening drive...
On the punt, TB is penalized for a False Start
Brady was hit by Basham for an incomplete pass to Brate to bring the Bucs to 4th down - Basham was injured on the play and his return is Questionable
The story of Dallas tonight is that the defense is doing all they can to help out the team, but the offense just can't seem to get anywhere at all. After the interception, they're held to 4th down when Prescott throws a sloppy pass incomplete to Brown. They kick it right back to the Bucs.

Halftime Summary: Bucs lead on field goals
The defenses have dominated so far in the first half of this SNF matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys. Micah Parsons "doesn't believe in pressure"
Last season was Cowboys defensive player Micah Parson's rookie year, but you wouldn't know it by the way he played. He won Defensive Rookie of the year and second place in Defensive Player of the year, made it to the Pro Bowl, and was nominated a First-Team All Pro. He finished the season with 20 tackles for loss (third in the league) and had 84 total tackles, 13 sacks, three passes defended and three forced fumbles.
At just 23 years old and with just one full season under his belt, Parsons has already done big things in the NFL. All eyes are on him going into the 2022 season, but Parsons won't let that get in his head.
“I don’t believe in pressure. Pressure is non-existent,” Parsons said. “You have expectations for yourself and what you want to achieve, and that is personal. I think pressure might be other people’s aspects and how they view you. If that can get you off your game, you are probably in the wrong sport.”

Cowboys vs Bucs: Key matchups to watch
Zeke vs Bucs run defense
Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is under pressure this year since his stats have been steadily declining for some years now. He’s not the RB he once was, but he’s still the Cowboys RB1. He’ll have his work cut out for him against the Buccaneers run defense. Last season, the Bucs allowed running backs just 4.3 yards per carry and allowed just 1,573 rushing yards, third in the league.
Devin White vs Dalton Schultz
Since the Cowboys are short on receiving talent at the moment, tight end Dalton Schultz will likely take on a lot of the load. Over the last two years, he totalled 1,423 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He’ll be up against one of the Buccaneers best defensive players, linebacker Devin White. Last year, however, was not White’s best - he missed 21 tackles.
DeMarcus Lawrence vs Tristan Wirfs
The Bucs right tackle Tristan Wirfs will have the task of protecting Tom Brady, but Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence will try his hardest to make sure that doesn’t happen. It will be no easy task, as Words is one of the best tackles in the NFL.
Cowboys vs Bucs storylines
Just a year ago, the Dallas Cowboys kicked off the 2021 season against the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay. The Cowboys lost last year, 31-29 on a Bucs field goal with two seconds left in the game. Tom Brady is now 6-0 against the Cowboys in his career. The Cowboys haven’t won against Tampa Bay since 2018. This year, the two will meet again, but this time, Dallas plays at home and the teams look a little different.
Both the Cowboys and the Buccaneers have dealt with some offensive line problems this offseason. Tom Brady lost his center Ryan Jensen with a torn ACL at the start of training camp, plus left guard Aaron Stinnie. On top of that, guard Ali Market retired and G Alex Cappa joined the Bengals. They will start C Robert Hainsey and rookie Luke Goedeke at LG. The Dallas defense is one of few positives going into the new season, which could make for a challenge to the Bucs o-line. Brady also lost his favorite receiving target when Rob Gronkowski retired. Chris Godwin, however, is still there and will be a game-time decision as he’s coming off ACL surgery, but he is suited up and will likely take the field.
The Cowboys, though, will have issues of their own protecting Dak Prescott. With left tackle Tyron Smith out, rookie Tyler Smith is in. Smith was the Cowboys first-round pick in the draft this year, but he was initially meant to play at left guard, not left tackle. The Cowboys also signed former Eagles tackle Jason Peters to help fill in the hole in the o-line, too. Prescott also lost one of his favorite targets and the Cowboys former no. 1 receiver Amari Cooper, who signed with the Browns. He will now look to CeeDee Lamb, who is confident and ready, to fill that role. The rest of the receiving core, however, is quite young and inexperienced: Noah Brown, Simi Fehoko, and Jalen Tolbert. Michael Gallup is expected to return at some point before Week 5 - he was taken off the PUP list as he’s been recovering from ACL surgery. James Washington also suffered an injury during training camp and is expected to be out until December at the earliest.
The Bucs are heading into the season with a new head coach after Bruce Arians retired. Now, former Cowboys defensive coordinator Todd Bowles has taken over. Bowles spent four years coaching the New York Jets but only won 26 of 67 games.
