WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM KANSAS CITY!!!!
NFL Standings
Taking a look at the standings in the AFC we see Chiefs at the top of the standings in the AFC with a perfect record of 8-0. The Bills and the Steelers as the next best with two losses at the halfway point, but the Ravens have fallen back as have the Houston Texans who join the Chargers with three losses. In the NFC, the Bucs have fallen out of the elite category, and now they will be focused on catching up to the Falcons at 6-3, but it won’t be easy considering they have already lost both games to Atlanta. They just need to hold on somehow until Mike Evans gets back to full fitness.
Evans returning, but not tonight
It was only a couple of weeks ago, but for Bucs fans it must seem like ages ago. Mike Evans suited up against the Ravens nursing a hamstring injury, and ended up inuring it even more trying to make a TD grab in the game against the Ravens. He would head to the locker room in noticeable pain, and have been without him ever since. He was not put on IR, which would have held him out for at least 4 games, and give him the earliest return date as Week 13. Instead, the Bucs are hoping to get him back in Week 12 against the Giants. Before that game they have dates with the Chiefs tonight and the Niners next week.
Banged up Chiefs
The Bucs aren’t the only ones who have had to deal with injuries. The Chiefs campaign has been plagued with injuries since early in the season. Isaiah Pacheco went down in Week 2 with a fractured fibula, and while he won’t play today, he is scheduled to return to practice in two or three weeks. That’s big news for the Chiefs who have four WRs on IR and JuJu Smith-Schuster ruled out tonight with a hamstring injury. The Chiefs did bring in Deandre Hopkins from the Titans in a mid season trade. He played the game against the Raiders, and will look to get a big more involved in the offense tonight against the Bucs.
Star watch: Chiefs
Obviously with four WRs on the IR, and another listed as out, we can’t expect too much from Patrick Mahomes or the passing game. Sure they still have Hopkins, and Worthy and Mecole Hardman which quite honestly is a better WR corps than a lot of teams have, but tonight is going to be all about Kareem Hunt. Hunt joined the Chiefs after Pacheco went down with injury and in the four weeks he has played with the team that drafted him, he has 308 yards, and four TDs. He has yet to break a run over 13 yards, but against at Bucs defense that looked vulnerable last week, this could be Hunt’s night.
Star watch: Bucs
With no Mike Evans or Chris Godwin, Baker Mayfield is going to need someone to step up tonight, and for the rest of the season. Last week it was Cade Otton who answered the call with 9 catches on 81 yards, but they are going to need WRs to bring it tonight. I like Rakim Jarrett to step into the spotlight and have a big game for Baker and the Bucs. The second year man out of Maryland played his first game last week against the Falcons and had 3 catches for 58 yards. If you get open, Baker is going to find you, and that’s exactly what you can expect fro Jarrett tonight.
Season recap: Chiefs
Like we said earlier, the Chiefs are perfect but they haven’t been perfect if that makes any sense. They beat the Ravens in the season opener by a toe, then got a bit of a break in the Bengals game when a pass interference flag gave the Chiefs a chance at a game winning field goal which they converted. The next week the Falcons felt they could have had a chance to win the game had a PI flag been thrown, but none was given and the Chiefs survived another scare. They would go down to the Charges 10-0, and battle back to win that game 17-10. They finally had a comfortable win over the Saints before their BYE and then met the Niners following their week off. They beat the Niners in a Super Bowl rematch and then had the narrow win over the Raiders last week. Only two of their eight wins have come by more than 7 points or more. Tonight they will be looking to put together their best performance of the season on a potentially historic night in which they can set a franchise record for most consecutive wins (14).
Season recap: Bucs
The Bucs made it to the playoffs last year on the shoulders of Baker Mayfield, and gave their QB a long term deal to keep him around for a while. With a solid defense and weapons at the WR position the Bucs were inline to compete in the NFC South, but this team came out swinging and beat some good teams early on to send a warning shot to the rest of the conference. They beat Washington in the first game of the season, which now looks like a fantastic win, and then moved to 2-0 handing the Lions their first and only loss of the season. A terrible performance against the Denver Broncos would slip them their first loss of the season, but they would rebound against the Eagles. A division loss to the Falcons and would put them behind the 8 ball in the NFC South, and then they lost Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in the defeat against the Ravens, and a second loss to the Falcons sends them into this game in a must win situation.
Last game: Chiefs
It wasn’t exactly pretty against a team that gives Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs headaches. The offense never looked like it was clicking and surprisingly enough the defense allowed the Raiders to keep the Raiders in the game, but in the end KC was too much for their divisional opponents. Up by seven points in the in the fourth quarter, Mahomes hit Xavier Worthy with the game sealing TD with less than 5:00 on the clock. Mahomes had to throw the ball 38 times, much more than we are used to seeing this season, and ended the night with 262 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. The Raiders would cut the lead to 7 with a late TD, but the Chiefs would recover the onside kick and kneel out the clock to stay perfect on the season.
Last game: Bucs
It was the first game that Baker Mayfield and the Bucs had to play without their two biggest stars at WR. Despite their injury issues they hung with the Atlanta Falcons thanks to Mayfield’s 330 yards and three TDs, but the defense was the unit that didn’t come to play against the Falcons. They gave up four TD passes to Cousins, but the Bucs still had a chance to win the game after Mayfield hit Cade Otton with a TD pass halfway through the fourth quarter. Younghoe Koo would miss a field goal with 1:06 to go, and Tampa had the ball with a chance to take the lead but Mayfield’s last gasp pass from the ATL 38 fell incomplete and the Falcons dropped the Bucs to 4-4 on the season.
We are live from KC
Hello everyone and welcome to Arrowhead Stadium where the Chiefs are back home following a narrow win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chiefs have been perfect, but haven’t been perfect through eight weeks of the season. They have done enough to play well, but injuries have made things tough for Patrick Mahomes to look like the MVP candidate QB that we are so used to seeing. Despite the injuries and the inconsistencies on the offensive end, the Chiefs are 8-0 thanks to their defense and looking to make it 9-0 tonight against a wounded Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that needs to stop the bleeding as soon as possible. They had a great start to the season and had big wins against some of the NFC’s best teams, but a fateful Monday Night not only cost them the game, but their two best WRs and the Bucs have gone spiraling since then. Tonight they look to stun the two time defending champs and take down another giant under the spotlights in KC.
Bucs vs. Chiefs live
The only undefeated team in the league puts their perfect record to the test tonight against a team that have come to be known as giant killers. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs look to make it eight straight to start their three-peat campaign, and they welcome a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that has been hit with a mid season injury crisis that is costing them dearly in the playoff chase. It’s the final Monday Night of the first half of the season and AS English will be with you all evening providing live coverage, stats, highlights and analysis of tonight’s game from Kansas City.
