Buffalo Bills postpone halftime drone show due to inclement weather
The Buffalo Bills host the San Francisco 49ers today in a snowy Highmark Stadium, but unfortunately they’ve had to postpone the halftime drone show.
The San Francisco 49ers are in for a rude awakening as they head to New York to face the Buffalo Bills. The city has been experiencing heavy snowfall throughout the day and it is expected to continue during the game, which begins at 8:20 p.m. ET from Highmark Stadium.
At the moment, the game is still scheduled to be played as planned. The Bills shared photos on social media of the field covered in snow, but authorities called on plows and shovelers to come and clear out the field and bleachers.
Bills game to go on, but drone show canceled
Although the Bills vs 49ers game is still scheduled to go on, the halftime drone show unfortunately is not. The Bills were planning to do something special for Sunday Night Football - an eight-minute drone show, a first for a SNF halftime show. The show would feature several Bills-themed formations.
But due to the snow and high winds, the Bills released a statement saying that the drone show would have to be postponed.
“Due to inclement weather and safety conditions in Orchard Park, the Sunday Night Lights at Highmark Stadium drone show has been postponed for this evening,” the statement read.
“The safety of our fans and partners is our utmost priority and we are committed to ensuring a safe and fun Sunday Night Football experience for everyone. We look forward to bringing the drone show back to Highmark Stadium in the future.”
Will the Bills vs 49ers game be canceled due to snow?
There is still a lake effect snow warning in effect that will be in place through Monday, but it is still unlikely the game itself will be canceled.
If the league deems that the weather conditions pose a safety risk to the players, staff, or fans, they could cancel the game, but they would be more likely to either postpone, reschedule, or relocate the game to another venue.
