Bullet was fired into Andy Reid’s Chiefs office, new report reveals

A bullet was reportedly fired into the office of Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid last year, forcing the team to rethink security at its training facility.

The incident is thought to have taking place in May 2024 but it was not made public. The news was revealed by The Kansas City Star in an exclusive report published on Wednesday evening.

The report adds that no one was struck by the gunshot, which broke through the glass on Reid’s office at the facility last year. The bullet penetrated the glass and lodged into a wall between Reid’s bathroom and entry door, roughly 15 from the coach’s desk.

Astonishingly, the incident was kept quiet up until now. The report from The Kansas City Star explains: “It had previously not been widely known in the 15 months after its occurrence — even among those in the building. For many Chiefs players and staff, The Star’s report will be the first they have learned of the gunfire that hit the facility."

The report adds that an investigation is ongoing, although there is no indication that Reid was specifically targeted. However Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Capt. Jacob Becchina said: “Because the building was occupied at the time of the bullet coming through the window, the case is being investigated as an aggravated assault.”

The gunfire actually saw two other bullets hit the building, with one hitting a floor above Reid’s office and another striking an outdoor air conditioning unit.

The Chiefs have not commented on the incident and appear eager to move on from the story. However there have been changes made in light of the shooting, with bullet-proof glass added to Reid’s office.
