Update:

As the 2025 NFL preseason kicks off, attention is already shifting toward the storylines that will define the new season. And Rich Eisen believes the Philadelphia Eagles are poised to make history.

Rich Eisen backs Eagles for rare back-to-back Super Bowl run: “They have the team to do it”

On a recent episode of “The Rich Eisen Show”, the sportscaster spotlighted the Eagles as a serious contender to repeat as Super Bowl champions. It’s happened eight times in the history of the NFL. But as Eisen pointed out, if the Eagles manage to win again this year, it would make an even rarer feat: a back-to-back winner followed by a back-to-back winner (as the Kansas City Chiefs won it in 2022 and 2023).

“They have an opportunity here to do something we haven’t seen in Philadelphia sports and in the National Football League since the 70s,” Eisen said, pointing out that the last back-to-back Super Bowl champions followed by back-to-back Super Bowl champions were the 1970s Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Despite much of the offseason conversation revolving around the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, and other high-profile teams with contract drama and holdouts, Eisen called out the media’s lack of focus on the reigning champs.

“We’re not talking about the Eagles. We’re talking all these other things... But they [the Eagles] do have the team, guys,” he said.

A deep, talented roster

Eisen laid out the reasons for his confidence. From MVP quarterback Jalen Hurts to a returning offensive core and a defensive line stacked with talent, the Eagles look ready for another deep playoff run. He praised the wide receiver duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Even with the departure of former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and some offseason defensive changes, Eisen believes the team’s identity remains strong.

“They’ve got the best running back in the National Football League… a 2000-yard rusher,” Eisen said, referring to Saquon Barkley, who joined Philly last year.

“They can rush the passer, they can put up points, and they have a quarterback that makes plays with his legs and his butt,” Eisen quipped.

Eyes on the schedule

Still, Eisen acknowledged the path won’t be easy. The Eagles’ 2025 schedule is brutal, with early matchups against the Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, Chiefs, and Denver Broncos, teams all capable of testing even the most seasoned rosters.

Chris Brockman noted that a worst-case 1–4 start is possible, but Eisen pushed back: “They’re just too damn talented… If they do it, they will have earned it. And it will be a story for the ages.”

A.J. Brown: “The Lombardi’s not loyal”

Eisen pointed out an “interesting” comment Eagles star A.J. Brown made during a SiriusXM Radio appearance, adding a dose of humility and focus.

“You just got to go back to work. All that stuff is over. The Lombardi, she’s not loyal, man,” Brown said.

Indeed, the grind starts fresh in 2025. But with one of the most complete rosters in football, an MVP quarterback, and championship-level experience, the Eagles are built to contend. If they can survive their gauntlet of a schedule, they may very well etch their names into NFL history again.
