Update:

It’s a new era in New York as the New York Giants look dig themselves out of the bottom of the NFL barrel. They will be hoping that former Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson will be one of the ones to lift them from the cellar to the top of the NFC.

No better city to “reestablish”

The Big Apple isn’t the easiest place to settle in, especially for a 36 year old quarterback who’s best playing days might be behind him. The Giants have entrusted Wilson to lead them for at least the next year after signing him to a one-year, $10.5 million deal back in March.

Talking to Sports Illustrated’s Connor Orr, Wilson said he was talking to New York City legend Carmelo Anthony who went to New York in a similar situation to which he is in now. “Me and Carmelo were talking about this,” Wilson said. “He’s like, ‘Man, this is the perfect place for you to reestablish and have everybody realize who Russell Wilson really is, by not just how you play on the field, but what you do, the community and different things that you’re able to impact.’ And people, it doesn’t get any bigger than New York City.”

After getting drafted by the Denver Nuggets and spending eight seasons in the Mile High City, Carmelo went to the Big Apple and rewrote the his narrative while becoming a legend in Madison Square Garden. He was named to the All-Star Game each of his years with Knicks, won the scoring title in 2013 and cemented his legacy as one of the best pure scorers the game has ever seen.

Jam packed QB room in NY

He will be in a quarterback room with Jameis Winston, who had a spectacular season of ups and down in Cleveland last year. Jaxson Dart is a rookie that was taken with the 25th pick of the NFL Draft, and is most likely the face of the future for the Giants. Hometown kid, Tommy DeVito is listed as the fourth string QB but nothing is set in stone as the Giants enter training camp next week.

The Giants brought Russell Wilson this offseason after they parted ways with Daniel Jones late last season. Wilson has had a rough go of things since leaving Seattle were he spent a decade. He won a Super Bowl and led the Seahawks to another Super Bowl in his time in the northwest, but he has bounced around since then.

He signed a massive $245 million contact with the Denver Broncos after leaving the Seahawks in 2022. That went south in a hurry in his two years in the Mile High City. He played alright in Pittsburgh but not well enough to keep the job, and now he’s looking to “reestablish” himself in the biggest market in sports.
