Chiefs 27 - 24 Bills NFL divisional round updates, summary, stats, score...
Josh Allen had the Bills in a position to tie the game with under 2:00 left, but he wasn't ready to place all the blame on Tyler Bass and his kick that missed wide right. He had a chance to hit Khalil Shakir on the play following the Two Minute Warning, but the pass fell short and surely that play was going through his mind when he said that you can't place the blame for the loss all on the kickers shoulders.
Who dared doubt Patrick Mahomes? This guy has led his team to 6 AFC Championship three Super Bowls, winning two of those and has chance to add to his ring collection. He can do it at Arrowhead. He can do it in Buffalo. He could probably do it on Mars if he needed to. Better bet that he and the Chiefs will be ready for their game against the Ravens in Baltimore next week.
The Bills got the ball back down three with a 8:23 left in the 4th quarter and marched down the field with a 16 play drive that set up a Tyler Bass field goal. From 44 yards out the Buffalo kicker gave Bills Mafia dejavu going wide right bringing back nightmares of Scott Norwood who missed a potential game winning field goal wide ride for the Bills in Super Bowl XXV.
The Bills fall short of the Super Bowl for yet another year, and to add insult to injury they bow out to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs who are off to their sixth straight AFC Championship as their title defense continues for at least another week.
The Bills were playing steady essentially all game, but when they got stopped on 3rd down in their own territory they tried to fake a punt but Damar Hamlin was stopped short of the marker and the Chiefs got the ball from the BUF 32.
After a 29 yard run from Pacheco put the Chiefs at the door step, Melcore Hardman got the handoff from the 1 yard line and tried to stretch to the goal line but fumbled it out of bounds to give the Bills the ball back at the 20.
We have talked about it all year. This is a different kind of Chiefs team than we are used to seeing it. They have a great defense and they can run the ball. Isaiah Pacheco led the Chiefs when they need it most, going for 97 yards and scored what would turn out to be the game winning TD on 15 carries.
The Bills may not be moving on to the AFC Championship. The Bills might have lost to the Kansas City Chiefs again. But Josh Allen is not to blame for Buffalo crashing out of the playoffs. On top of his 72 rushing yards, he had 186 yards on 26/39 passing with this TD to Khalil Shakir to take the lead late in the 4th quarter.
Kelce and Mahomes connected to take the lead early in the 3rd quarter to become the most prolific QB/receiver duo in the history of the playoffs, surpassing Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski with their 16th postseason TD.
There has been a lot of talk about Mahomes' receiving corp this season. They have had drops, they have run wrong routes, and they never seemed to be completely on the same with their MVP QB, but Marquez Valdes-Scantling and the receivers made big plays on Sunday night.
Just before the halftime break, the Bills switched up from running the ball as they went into their two minute offense but when they needed to punch it in, they went to Josh Allen who had the second of his two rushing TDs.
The Bills ended the night with 182 yards on the ground, Allen led them with 72 yards, James Cook had 61 and Johnson had 40 yards on the ground.
Tayor Swift was in the box seats at Highmark Stadium but more importantly the, perhaps retired, Jason Kelce was in the building cheering on his brother Travis and the Chiefs.
The Chiefs were forced to play their first playoff road game in the Patrick Mahomes era. Some doubted if he could be as affective as he normally is in the comfort of his own stadium, but he showed that he was up for the challenge in Buffalo.
It didn't get off to a great start, as the Chiefs had to settle for field goals in their first two possessions but right before the Two Minute Warning Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce connected for their 15th playoff TD to take the 13-10 lead.
The Kansas City Chiefs are heading to their sixth straight AFC Championship after a narrow victory over the Bills in Buffalo. Patrick Mahomes had a near perfect night against the Bills defense, throwing two TDs in the 27-24 win.
After a slow first quarter, the Bills got into the red zone for the second time in as many possessions, but this time they punched it in with this Josh Allen 5 yard scramble. The Bills used the run game to control the pace for the first half. James Cook and Josh Allen were creating plenty of problems for the Chiefs in the early going.

Uffff, this one is too close to call. I don't dare bet against either quarterback tonight, but I do think both will have good games as this one turns into a shootout.
I'm taking the over 45.5, and if I have to pick a winner I'll go Chiefs 28-24
Swiftie is in the building
For those of you who care, and those who claim you don't. Taylor Swift is in the building for a second straight Chiefs playoff game. She bared the cold in Kansas City last week and now she'll do it from Buffalo although it's doubtful that her or Mama Kelce will shivering through the night the like those in Buffalo who don't have suite at Highmark Stadium.
Banged up Bills
The Bills advanced through their game against the Steelers but paid a price in doing so. They got banged up in a physical game against a Pittsburgh team that took them to the 12th round. Tonight’ they have four players that have been ruled out, three of this on the defensive side of the ball. Gabe Davis won’t be available for Josh Allen in the passing game dealing with a knee injury, while CB Christian Benford, LB Baylon Spector and S Taylor Rapp are out for the Bills defense. Terrel Bernard, Taron Johnson and punter Sam Johnson are also listed as questionable.
How's the weather up there?
The weather has been one of the major players in this year's postseason. Last week we saw the Chiefs and Dolphins face frigid conditions in Kansas City in one of the coldest games in NFL history. The Bills game got delayed for a day because of the snow in Buffalo. They ended up playing on Monday night a cold, windy game from Highmark Stadium. It looks like the snow has passed through at least for the night, but it’s going to be another chilly one with temps around 20 degrees but for these two teams that are used to played in these conditions. The good news for Allen and Mahomes is the wind isn’t likely to be a factor, with gusts not expected to surpass 10 mph.
Biggest night of Allen's career
Josh Allen finally has the Chiefs right where he wants them. Tonight will be the third playoff match up between these two teams in the last four years, but neither of the first two games went the Bills way. Tonight will be the first time Allen and the Bills get to host the Chiefs and with Bills Mafia on their side they will look to get back to the AFC Championship for the first time since 2020. Allen had four total TDs last week against the Steelers and didn’t turn the ball over once. He knows it’s going to take another performance like that to finally get the better of the Chiefs tonight.
No Mahomes field advantage tonight
For the first time in his playoff career Patrick Mahomes is going to have to win a post season game in enemy territory if he wants to get his team to Super Bowl Sunday. It hasn’t been an easy road to the last five AFC title games but it’s been a familiar one. The Chiefs haven’t had to leave Kansas City for a single game of their last five playoff campaigns, but tonight that will change. We know how good Patrick Mahomes is in the postseason, but we only know how good he is in home playoffs games. He hasn’t been as dominant this season because his supporting cast hasn’t helped out much. Last week it was Rashee Rice who stepped up, but tonight he is going to need all hands on deck against a Buffalo defense that is much improved since last year.
Bills last game
The Bills game against the Steelers was postponed a day due to lake effect snow in Western New York. The extra day allowed the snow to clear and Josh Allen and the Bills used that to their advantage. It was still cold and windy so the ground game was going to have to be the foundation of the Buffalo offense. James Cook had 79 yards, Allen had 74 and a TD and Johnson added another 26 as the Steelers D had a tough time dealing with the ground and pound look from the Bills . Allen threw for 3 TDs and just over 200 yards but the Steelers were still within a TD in the final quarter. Khalil Shakir’s 17 yard TD catch with just under 6:30 to go in the 4th was enough to move the Bills on to the Divisional Round to set up this mouthwatering matchup tonight from Orchard Park.
Chiefs last week
The Chiefs braved the frigid temperatures in a home game against the high flying Miami Dolphins and between the icy conditions and the KC defense, the Fins air attack was neutralized as wind and subzero temperatures made it almost impossible to throw the ball. The Chiefs D allowed just seven points as they kept Tua Tagovailoa to under 200 yards, and the Miami running game never got off the ground. Isaiah Pacheco dictated the pace of play, running for 89 yards and a TD to ice the game in the 4th quarter and Rashee Rice stepped up and proved that he is going to be the one to give Patrick Mahomes a viable option in the passing game.
