The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a huge injury scare in their week 15 NFL game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday (December 15) as quarterback Patrick Mahomes was forced off the field in the fourth quarter at Huntington Bank Field.

What happened to Mahomes against the Browns?

Late in the game, Mahomes was brought to the ground after taking a hit on a pass attempt. Dalvin Tomlinson tackled him low and Michael Hall Jr. charged into him up high, causing his upper body to snap backwards.

The impact of the collision was immediately clear, with Mahomes limping very heavily as he made his way off the field.

The early signs are that the 29-year-old has suffered some kind of lower-leg injury, although that has still to be confirmed.

After their victory over the Browns, the Chiefs still have three regular-season games to play:

Week 16: Texans, Dec 22

Week 17: @ Steelers, Dec 25

Week 18: @ Broncos, Jan 5

When do the NFL playoffs begin?

Given Andy Reid’s team has already qualified for the postseason, a short-term injury to Mahomes might not be a huge issue. However, they will be desperate for him to be fully fit for the NFL playoffs, which are due to begin on January 11.
