Chiefs 28 vs 18 49ers summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 7

The Chiefs were just trying to run some clock, but Hardman got some space on the end around and edge and took it to the house to call game on the Niners for the second time in a matter of eight months. He did it in the Super Bowl and did it at Levi's Stadium as the Chiefs stay perfect after their BYE week. 

The Niners drop to 4-3 and have a mass of injuries they are going to have to deal with. It all starts with Christian McCaffery, but he may not even be enough to overcome the Niners problems on both sides of the ball. 

The game was still not over. The Niners responded despite their lack of weapons at WR. Purdy hit Jacob Cowing on a big 41 yard pass play to set up the Niners inside the 10 yard line but Purdy was picked for a third time after George Karlaftis got a piece of his arm on the pass and it was picked by Jaden Hicks in the endzone. 

On 4th and Goal, Mahomes dialed up his own number and trucked Malik Mustapha in the endzone to put the Chiefs up two scores at the beginning of the third quarter. He ended the day with 39 yards on 5 scrambles, none bigger than this one here. 

This was without question the play of the game. Patrick Mahomes working his magic after breaking out of the pocket. He ran left, got to the endzone, danced around the defenders and took it 30 yards up the sideline to set up the Chiefs third TD of the game. 

The Niners had a chance to take the lead after stopping the Chiefs on a second straight possession to start the second half. Purdy had his team in field goal range but sailed this pass over the head of his receiver and that deflated the crowd at Levi Stadium. 

San Fran cut the lead to two after a QB sneak from Purdy, and momentum seemed like it was on the verge of changing in San Fran. Andres Carlson, SF's third kicker in three weeks, missed the PAT to keep the Chiefs up 2 points. 

The Chiefs seemed to be dominating the game, but only led by 8 heading into halftime. They came out of the break aggressive, going deep to Worthy on the opening play of the third quarter and then trying him on this throw that was picked off by Deommodore Lenoir. Mahomes went just 16/27 for 154 yards and two picks but was saving the best for last. 

Mecole Hardman scored the Super Bowl winning TD in the Super Bowl eight months ago, and was a thorn in the side of the Niners again on Sunday in the Bay. He took a punt return back 55 yards which set up Hunt's second TD of the day. He ended with 78 yards on 22 carries and two TDs. 

After the Niners put up the first points of the game, Mahomes drove the Chiefs down the field and set up this Kareem Hunt TD for the first of his day. Hunt has fit right into the offense after being signed in the middle of the season by the team that drafted him years ago. 

The Niners would take the ball back thanks to a brilliant play from Kalia Davis who tipped the ball at the line and made the pick to keep the Chiefs off the board. Mahomes is having some WR issues of his own, and those only got worse when he lost JuJu Smith-Schuster early in the game. He didn't have a huge game but he made plays to win the game, which is what he's been doing all season. 

On the play after the fake punt, Brock Purdy threw it right into the hands of Justin Reid who came up with one of three Purdy picks. In fairness to the SF QB, he was without Jauan Jennings, lost Deebo Samuel to illness after a few snaps and eventually saw Brandon Aiyuk suffer a knee injury that is going to be evaluated, but looked pretty serious at first glance. 

The Kansas City Chiefs are the last remaining team in the NFL after their Week 7 win in San Francisco. Kareem Hunt had two TDs to lead the Chiefs to victory in the Super Bowl LVIII rematch. 

The points eventually came, but it took away from San Francisco. After the Niners went three and out on the opening drive of the game, the Chiefs tried a fake punt on their first possession. San Fran came up with the stop, but they wouldn't have the ball for long.

The Chiefs stay perfect with a huge road win in a rematch of the Super Bowl.

Purdy finds Kittle in the flat but he is taken down by Chenal for a loss of 3.

Purdy finds Pearsall for a 9 yard gain to the right side.

Purdy over the middle to Kittle and he brings it in for 15 yards.

SF get the ball from their 35 and the pass to Pearsall goes for 5 yards on the pass to the flat. Off setting penalties will replay the down as Trent Williams gets ejected for throwing a punch.

Hardman with the end around and he takes it to the house from 18 yards out to break the Niners hearts like he did eight months ago. 

Karlaftis brought the pressure and forced Purdy's third pick of the day, this one was taken away by Conley in the end zone. 

Roll out from Mahomes and he finds Perine on a short pass that he turns into a 22 yard gain as the clock runs under 3:30.

Perine up the middle and he gets another three yards. Timeout SF with 3:59 to go. 

3rd and 4 from the SF 40 coming up. 

Perine up the gut and he picks up 3 yards as the Niners take their first time out with 4:04 to go.

Mahomes steps up in the pocket and finds Gray on the pass to the right side. He may have been in the hands of a defender, but still got the pass off.

Hunt slipped and is touched down for a loss of a yard.

Mahomes called his own number on 4th and Goal and unleashed the hit stick on Mustapha on his way into the end zone. KC leads by two scores early in the 4th quarter. 

We'll get to the TD run in just a second, but just sit back and marvel at Patrick Mahomes. He looked like he was going to get dropped in the backfild and instead he takes it for a 30 yard gain after a nasty cut back on the left sideline. 

Mahomes looked for Hardman who was open scaling the goal line but he slipped and the ball falls incomplete. 

4th and Goal and the Chiefs are going for it. 

Hunt up the middle and he is stopped for no gain!

Some Mahomes magic, maybe one of his best ever. He pops to the left side, turns the edge on Warner, cuts back as he gets to the sideline and then races down the sideline to inside the 5 yard line!

Purdy has none of his top WRs in the game right now. Jennings was ruled out before the game, Samuel was sick coming into the game and played a few snaps before being ruled out. Aiyuk got hurt with a pretty serious looking injury back in the first half. Not sure who to blame here, the QB or the WR who Purdy probably doesn't have many reps with the second string guys.

Watch the offensive line dup the Chiefs defenders by pulling and opening up some space for Purdy's QB sneak. 

Mahomes went for Worthy on a deep ball to start the half, and then went with a shorter pass on the left side but Worthy slipped on the next play and Lenoir was there to make the pick and run it back deep into KC territory.

WE ARE BACK IN SAN FRAN FOR THE SECOND HALF OF ACTION!!!

Mecole Hardman set up the second TD of the Chiefs' day with a 55 yard punt return that set KC up deep in SF territory. Hunt was there to wiggle into the end zone for his second TD run of the day, this one from 6 yards out. He's got 11 carries for 36 yards and 2 TDs. 

Purdy hasn't looked comfortable for much of this game, and thats a tribute to George Kalaftis and the Chiefs line. Purdy has been sacked just once, but pressured plenty of other times. He's just 8/16 for 113 yards and an INT. 

The Nines would get on the board first with a Anders Carlson field goal from 55 yards out. The former Green Bay Packer is the third kicker the Niners have used in the last three weeks, but he came out scored the only points of the Niners first half. 

The Chiefs would respond with a 7 play, 70 yard drive led by Patrick Mahomes who went 11/17 for 108 yards and one INT in the first half. It was Hunt who punched it in from less than a yard out to put the Chiefs in the lead. 

Back and forth we went in the first half as each team turned the ball over in a matter of minutes. Mahomes' pass was tipped and picked by Davis and it looked like we were going to have a defensive clinic from the Bay over the first 15 minutes. 

A play after the fake punt, Brock Purdy gave it right back to the Chiefs with this pass that wasn't really intended for anyone in a red jersey. It was Reid who came in and picked it off. 

The Niners started the game going three and out, and looked to have stopped the Chiefs on their first drive, but Andy Reid went for a fake punt on 4th down in his own territory. The Niners would take over with great field position but wouldn't keep it for too long.

Pass to the flat for Cowing on the right side and he lowers his head for a 9 yard gain.

Aiyuk with a crossing route over the middle and he makes the catch but got popped by Conner and he is slow to get up. The replay was pretty nasty, as his knee buckled as the hit came.

Pearsall makes the catch on the right side and the Niners fans roar for the WR who came back after getting shot in the chest during a robbery in San Francisco.

Hunt may only have 21 yards on 8 carries but he's helping move the chains and when he had a chance, he punched it into the end zone from inside the 1. Chiefs lead 7-3 early in the second quarter.

We had failed fake punts, interceptions, and sacks in what's been a defensive masterclass so far. 

Mahomes zips it over the middle for Gray and he falls to the ground to wrap up that pass for a 20 yard completion.

Anders Carlson is the Niners third kicker in the last three weeks, and he drills a 55 yarder to put the first points on the board.

On the play after the unsuccessful faked punt, the Chiefs D gives the ball right back to their offense with a pick by Reid. Not a very good throw from Purdy, and he's going to have to come up big if he doesn't want to hear questions about KC and Mahomes having his number.

Mahomes goes for the end zone looking for Worthy, but not even the speedy WR could catch up to that pass.

Mahomes on the boot leg on the right side, and he finds Worthy with a short pass that was caught as the WR slid to the ground.

Mahomes drops back and had all kinds of time to find Gray with a big gain to the left sideline for 26 yards.

Coming into the afternoon in the Bay, the Niners come into this massive matchup as the slight favorites over the undefeated Chiefs. San Fran is a 1.5 point favorite with the Over/Under set at 47.

I hate picking against the Chiefs, especially coming off of a BYE week. Andy Reid is 21-4 in week’s after a BYE, and you can bet he has been getting his team ready for this game from San Fran. The Niners finally gave a performance that made them look like a contender last week in Seattle, and I think this team is trending in the right direction. The Chiefs have been squeaking by teams, and I think if they do that today in the Bay, they will be in trouble. 

Niners win it in a tight one, 27-23. 

Head to head series

These two teams have been the best in their respective conferences over the last five years. The Chiefs are in the midst of their dynasty phase, but if it wasn’t for the Chiefs, the Niners might have a claim to the newest dynasty in the NFL. KC has won the last four match ups against San Fran, including two wins on Super Sunday to take a 9-7 lead in the historical series that dates back to 1971. Today the Niners will be looking for a little revenge for their last two Super Bowl losses. It wouldn’t make up for the heartbreak on Super Sunday, but handing the Chiefs their first loss of the season would send a big statement to the rest of the league. 

Last game: Super Bowl LVIII

For the second time in a handful of years, the Niners and the Chiefs met on Super Bowl Sunday. For the second time in a handful of years the Chiefs beat the Niners to lift the Lomardi Trophy. Eight months has passed since Super Bowl LVIII, but the wounds are still open in San Fran after they took a 10-0 lead in the first half. It was a low scoring, defensive match up that came down to the kicking game late in the fourth quarter. Jake Moody put the Niners up 19-16 with under two minutes left in the game but Mahomes would drive his team down the field and set up a game tying Harrison Butker field goal from 29 yards out to force the game to OT. The Niners won the toss and got the ball first, kicking a field goal to take the lead but Mahomes and the Chiefs would respond driving all the way down the field. On 1st and Goal with a few seconds left in the OT session, Mahomes hit Mecole Hardman for the walk-off TD pass to secure the Chiefs second straight Super Bowl and third in five years. 

Mason ready for the showdown

While McCaffery’s absence isn’t ideal, Jordan Mason has done a great job trying to fill the shoes of one the best two way running back in the game. He may not be as versatile in the passing game, but he is averaging over 100 yards rushing a game and has scored three TDs while getting 5.3 yards a carry. He injured his shoulder in the the first half of the last game against the Seahawks, and tried to return but only got one carry after the halftime break. He was listed as day-to-day after the Niners win, but after a mini BYE Mason has been given the green light for today’s massive match up.

With Christian McCaffery sidelined since the opening week of the season, even more responsibility has been placed on the shoulders of their QB, Brock Purdy. Somehow, someway he still has to hear they critics and doubters questioning if he’s capable of running this team. Without the best offensive player in the game over the first six weeks of the season, all Purdy has done is throw for 1,629 yards (2nd in the league) for 9 TDs and just 4 INTs. He may not be getting the accolades that Mahomes gets for MVP, but he has this team trending in the right direction, and if and when Christian McCaffery comes back, watch out. This could turn a good team into the best team in the NFC. 

Star watch: Chiefs

The Chiefs have been decimated by injury, but they keep on chugging along thanks to their two time MVP Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes is back on track to win the MVP again this year, although his numbers are far from the best in the league. His 1,235 yards are 17th in the league, and he has just 6 TDs and 6 INTs. They may not be stunning numbers, but Kansas City is undefeated and when it comes down to MVP voting, winning matters more than stats. He’s coming off a BYE and if there is one thing we know about Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, it’s that they come out of BYEs better than they went into them. 

Season recap: Niners

After losing to the Chiefs in overtime of the Super Bowl, the Niners came into this season looking to make a return run but were dealt an early bit of bad news. Christian McCaffery hasn’t played a down this season as he continues to rehab an Achilles injury. San Fran won their first game over the Jets without McCaffery, but then dropped three of their next four, and lost late double digit leads in two of those three games. They lost to the Vikings, Rams and the Cardinals, with a blow out win over the Pats tucked in between their two losses to their division rivals. Last game, Purdy and the offense got back on track and took the NFC West lead with a win over the Seahawks. 

Season recap: Chiefs

The Chiefs record may say they are perfect, but it hasn’t always looked perfect. They started their three-peat bid with a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship against the Ravens. The Chiefs would win that game by a toe, before taking on the Bengals in Week 2. A late pass interference call on a 4th down would set up the Chiefs for a game winning field goal as KC snuck another late win for the second straight week. The Falcons took them down to the wire, but this time is was a no call on a potential pass interference in the end zone that kept ATL out of the end zone and allowed the Chiefs to rattle off a third straight win. In Week 4 they would have to comeback on the Chargers after going down 10 in the first quarter. The defense buckled down and Mahomes led the comeback but he would lose his top WR Rashee Rice for the rest of the season. Before their BYE, they would finally win a game by more than one possession when they controlled the Saints from start to finish to head into their week off at 5-0.

Last game: Niners 

San Fran went into Seattle with a chance to take the lead in the division against the Seahawks to kickoff Week 6, and Brock Purdy and the Niners didn’t spoil the occasion. They jumped all over the Seahawks in the first two quarters, thanks to an opening drive pick and then a forced fumble on a kick return right after Deebo Samuel’s 76 yard catch and run. Brock Purdy would pass for two more TDs on his way to 255 yards and third string RB Isaac Guerendo had 99 yards on 10 carries after Jordan Mason went down with a shoulder injury earlier in the game. 

Last game: Chiefs

It seems like ages ago, but the last time the Chiefs took the field they finally got a win that didn’t go down to the wire. Patrick Mahomes lit up the Saints defense for 331 yards and the defense shut down Derek Carr and the offense. Kareem Hunt had a big game in his first game getting the majority of the carries, going for 102 yards and a TD on 27 carries, and Xavier Worthy iced the game with a  yard TD run from three yards out. 

We are live from San Fran

Hello everyone and welcome to the Bay where the Niners are back home and at the top of the NFC West following their first good performance of the year. It came in Seattle against their division rival last Thursday and now, coming off of their mini BYE they have the biggest game of the season coming, and a chance for revenge against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Kansas City is coming off of their BYE and the only remaining undefeated team left in the AFC. It hasn’t been easy for the Chiefs who looked to have greatly improved on the offensive end over the offseason, but injuries problems have plagued the Chiefs. They are still undefeated and coming off a week’s rest. Will they stay perfect or will the Niners make a statement to the rest of the league?
