Chiefs 29 vs 10 Steelers summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Christmas Day
Both of KC's MVPs came into the locker room with some swag provided by Netflix and the Chiefs got a special visit from Coach Clause who gifted the home field throughout the playoffs.
After Pat Freiermuth fumbled the ball three plays after the Hunt TD, and that set up a chance for the Chiefs to close the door on Pittsburgh. Mahomes found Travis Kelce who became Chiefs all time leader in TD receptions (77).
Mahomes ended the day with 3 TDs and 320 yards on 29/38 yards to lead KC to the win and the one seed in the AFC. They have home field advantage throughout the playoffs, and a first round BYE while the Steelers drop their third straight and could lose their place at the top of the AFC North if the Ravens win later today.
It was still tight after 45 minutes, but the Chiefs pulled away in the final quarter. On the first play of the 4th quarter Kareem Hunt punched it into the end zone to stretch the lead to 22-10 and you got the sense the Chiefs were on the verge of a knockout blow.
The Steelers offense got going when they started to run it with Warren, that opened up the pass game and cleared some space down field for Wilson to stretch his legs. Wilson did just that to cut into the KC lead early in the second quarter.
Wilson went 23/37 for 205 yards and an INT, but the Steelers offense would quiet down in the second half, and they have some big questions to face in the next few weeks before the playoffs start. It's been a rough end to the season for Wilson, the offense and the Steelers.
The Steeles offense finally turned it on and actually got into the end zone with a Jaylen Warren TD run, but a holding backed PIT up 10 yards and on the next play, Russell Wilson got picked in the end zone by Justin Reid.
The Chiefs defense stood strong again on the second possession and the Chiefs were able to double the lead on a this pass to the corner of the end zone for Justin Watson. It was 13-0 in the first quarter and it looked like it was going to be a Christmas Day massacre in Pittsburgh.
The Kansas City Chiefs secured the one seed in the AFC and home field throughout the playoffs with one of their most complete wins of the season over the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Patrick Mahomes threw three TDs in the 29-10 Christmas Day win.
KC wasted no time getting on the board after holding the Steelers to a three and out. They went for it on a 4th and short play early in the drive and that paid off in the form of a TD to Xavier Worthy on this pass to the flat.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM PITTSBURGH!!!
Star watch: Chiefs
Slowly but surely, Patrick Mahomes is getting his weapons back and healthy for a playoff run. Isaiah Pacheco came back a few weeks ago and has been a welcomed addition to the run game. Hollywood Brown made his Chiefs debut last week and had five catches for 45 yards. Mahomes hasn’t been putting up the MVP numbers like we are used to seeing from the three time Super Bowl champ, but he has been doing just enough for keep the Chiefs in games and late in the 4th quarter it seems like he always makes the game winning play to make the difference and carry his team to the finish line. He has 3,608 yards passing and 23 TDs with 11 INTs, but he hasn’t thrown a pick in the last five weeks. While the offense hasn’t been up to our sky high standards, Mahomes is doing enough to keep the Chiefs at the top of the AFC, and today he can lead them to another postseason run with home field advantage.
Star watch: Steelers
Coach Tomlin entrusted Russell Wilson to take this offense and team to the next level and for a while it looked like he made the right choice. He won six of his first seven games tossing 12 TDs and just three INTs. I the last couple games his numbers have gone down and his mistakes have gone up. He had just 128 yards and 1 TD against the Eagles and then his two massive mistakes cost the Steelers the game in Baltimore last week. At this point of the season there is no going back to Fields so Coach Tomlin is going to have to stick with his veteran QB, but Wilson is also going to have to show he can carry this team in the playoffs.
Season recap: Steelers
The Steelers offloaded Kenny Pickett and brought in a couple of veteran quarterbacks to try and take a load off the Pittsburgh D for the first time in a long time. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields were brought to PIT almost simultaneously and a QB competition ensued. Fields start the first six games of the year after Wilson suffered a calf injury right before Week 1. Fields went 4-2 in that time, but coach Tomlin though it was time for a change. Wilson got the start against the Jets and the offense suddenly turned on. The Steelers won four straight games with Wilson as their QB, but would get stunned by the Browns on a snowy night in Cleveland. The ship started to rock after that win despite winning their next to games against the Bengals and then the Browns. They are in the midst of a treacherous end of the season in which they have played the Eagles and Ravens in the last two weeks, they have the Chiefs today and end the season against the Bengals. How they finish the season is going to determine where they sit heading into the playoffs, and give us a glimpse of what to expect from this team once the postseason comes around.
Season recap: Chiefs
The two time defending champions have had one thing on their mind since the moments after their Super Bowl win last February. They want to be the first team to three peat in the history of the league. They started off with a narrow win over the Ravens in Week 1, and they would go on to win their first nine games despite losing a handful of stars on the offensive end. Despite the injuries Patrick Mahomes was able to lead his team to narrow one possession victories in seven of those nine games. The Chiefs tasted defeat for the first time against the Bills in Week 11, but since then they have bounced back and won their last five games, but against four of those have come in one possession games. It’s been nearly perfect for the Chiefs but it hasn’t been pretty a lot of the time. Today they have a chance to get a big win over a top team in the AFC, which would do wonders for them heading into the playoffs.

Last game: Steelers
The Steelers had a massive game against the Ravens in Baltimore last week, but for a second straight week their offense didn’t show up in a game against one of the top teams in the league. Lamar Jackson threw 3 TDs and Derrick Henry ran for 162 yards while the defense stepped up and shut down Russell Wilson and the Steelers. First with a massive forced fumble on a Wilson scramble inside the 4 yard line. Baltimore would take it 96 yards down the field and take a 14-7 lead with a TD pass from Jackson to Rachod Bateman. Pittsburgh tied the game up at 17-17 with a Russell Wilson pass to Cordarrell Patterson, but the Ravens defense would step up after giving up their lead mid way through the third quarter and make the play of the game early in the fourth quarter. Up by 7, Marlon Humphrey picked off Wilson and took the interception to the house for a 37 yard pick six as the Ravens joined PIT at the top of the AFC North.
AFC Standings
Taking a look at the AFC Standings we see the Chiefs standing alone at the top of the conference with a record of 14-1. The closest team to them is the Bills but their three losses mean that the Chiefs can close out the race for the one seed and clinch home field advantage today against the Steelers. The Steelers and the Ravens are currently tied at the top of the AFC North, but PIT has the tie breaker so technically they lead the division coming into the week. The math and get complicated but if PIT wins out they win the division. If they lose to the Bengals and the Ravens beat the Browns and both teams end the season at 11-6, then the Ravens would win the AFC North. There is a lot to figure out from now until then, but today the Steelers will be solely focused on winning their game against the Chiefs.
Last game: Chiefs
The Chiefs hosted the Texans last Saturday amidst uncertainty surrounding their star QB’s banged up ankle. Those questions were answered almost immediately when Patrick Mahomes put the Chiefs first TD on the board with a 15 yard scramble. Their lead didn’t last long. CJ Stroud and the Texans would cut into the lead with a TD pass to Dalton Schultz to take a 10-7 lead in the 2nd quarter. Kareem Hunt and Harrison Butker put KC back in the lead at halftime with a 3 yard TD rush and a 44 yard field goal to go into the break up 17-10. Stroud and the Texans would rebound after the half with a long pass to Tank Dell for a TD, but disaster struck as the WR made the catch in the end zone but suffered a devastating knee injury. That would deflate the Texans and the Chiefs were able to hold on for a 27-19 win.
We are live from Acrisure Stadium
Hello everyone and welcome to Pittsburgh where the Steelers are back home after losing their last two and three of their last five. They have a gauntlet of a schedule to finish off the regular season and their once comfortable spot at the top of the AFC North has been put into serious jeopardy. They are trying to bounce back from a loss in Baltimore that could end up costing them division and the chance to host at least one playoff game once the postseason comes rolling around. The Chiefs are coming off yet another one possession win over the Houston Texans last week and they have a chance to wrap up home field advantage throughout the playoffs if they can come up with a win today in Pittsburgh. Will the Steelers break their losing spell or with the Chiefs take care of business clinch the top seed in the AFC?
