The Vikings tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter, and it was led by Kirk Cousins and Alex Mattison, who punched in this 9 yard TD run to bring the Chiefs back to within a touchdown.

The Vikings would get a chance to tie the game up, but a controversial decision to pick up a pass interference flag in the endzone on 4th and 12 from the KC 24 essentially ended the Vikings chances of tying up the game.

as.com

The Vikings went three an out on their next possession, and KC punished them getting into the endzone on back to back drives. This time Mahomes found Kelce who came back in the middle of the third quarter. The duo connected on this 4 yard TD pass as Kelce led all KC receivers with 67 yards and a TD, while Mahomes ended the night 31/41/ for 281 yards and 2 TDs.

as.com

Just a few plays later it was Mahomes finding Rashee Rice on the slant pattern to give the Chiefs the 20-13 lead.

as.com

On the opening possession of the second half, the Chiefs had 3rd down from deep in their own territory and Mahomes launched up a prayer that was answered by Justin Watson. That play would allow the Chiefs to go down and retake the lead early in the second half.

as.com

Late in the first half, Travis Kelce went down untouched after landing awkwardly on his ankle and it didn't look good as the Chiefs TE had to go to the locker room with time remaining on the clock.

KC weren't the only ones who saw their star go down with injury. Justin Jefferson had to exit the game with an apparent hamstring injury late in the game as the Vikings were forced to try to make the comeback without the best WR in the league.

as.com

Soon after the fake punt conversion, Kirk Cousins found Jordan Addison in the back of the end zone for the 5 yard TD catch. The Vikings might have scored too soon, because they left KC time to go down and kick a field goal before the end of the second quarter, tying the game up at 13-13.

as.com

The Vikings responded after the early turnover, kicking two field goals, but they would take the lead late in the first half after a gutsy call on 4th down. The fans actually booed when the FG unit came out, but coach Kevin O'Connell had a trick up his sleeve.

as.com

Times are a changing in KC. It used to be Mahomes and the massive pass attack of the Chiefs offense. Now Kansas City is winning games making big plays on the defensive end and running the ball with Isaiah Pacheco. The second year RB had 55 yards and this TD from a yard out to start the day in Minnesota.

as.com

On the very first play from scrimmage the Vikings Josh Oliver coughs up the football, and it looked like Minnesota was in for a long night. They came into the game as the team with the most committed turnovers through four weeks, and this fumble was their 7th giveaway in the first quarter this season.

as.com

The Chiefs hold on to win in Minneapolis as they improve to 4-1 on the year! Minnesota drop to 1-4, and have the same amount of losses this year as they did all of last year.

ODDS

The Kansas City Chiefs come into today as 3.5 point favorites with the Over/Under set at 52.5.

These two teams can both put up points, and this might be the chance for the Chiefs to light up the Minnesota secondary. The Vikings being homedogs scares me a bit because I think the offense will keep this close, so I’m taking the over 52.5.

Chiefs win 31-28.

Pacheco packing a punch

The quality at the WR position may have dipped a little bit from last year to this year, but one position they have got even better at is at RB. Isaiah Pacheco has turned into the first string running back in KC, and he has been a revelation this year. Last week against the Jets he had 115 yards and a TD off 20 carries. It’s not just the stats he puts up, its the way he runs. He is a punishing RB that can run you over or juke you out of your shoes like he did on his 48 yard TD sprint on Monday night.

J-Jeff still doing his themes

It’s been a a nightmare start to the season for the Vikings, but just like Kirk Cousins, if you look at Justin Jefferson’s stats you wouldn’t believe it. He has 543 yards through the first four games and has dragged in three TD passes, but he has been a part of the Vikings turnover problems as well. He had a big fumble at the end of the first half against the Philadelphia Eagles. He is still the number one option for Cousins and is still the top receiver in the league, and the Vikes will be hoping their WR1 is going set for a big day against the defending Super Bowl champions.

Will she or won’t she?

Do we really even care about the game? Or is all we care about is if Taylor Swift will be seen sitting in one of the boxes, eating chicken fingers and sipping drinks in the company of Mama Kelce amongst others. The crossing of cultures has made Swifties NFL fans, NFL fans Swifties, and the NFL is cashing in on this new influx of interest from a previously uninterested demographic. After being in attendance for the Chiefs last two games, in KC and NYC, there is no word on whether or not we will see Taylor in the box, and Travis giving her a cheeky pregame smile before kickoff. Some, including Travis have said that the coverage of Swift over all NFL platforms are a bit over the top, but if there is one thing we know, the Swifties aren’t going to give it a rest and it appears that the NFL won’t either.

Cousins NFL TD and yards leader

It’s hard to see Kirk Cousins early season stats and believe that the Vikings are struggling as much as they are. His 1,214 yards are third in the league coming into Week 5. He also comes into the week with the most TD passes through through the first four weeks with 11, but the Vikings have been one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to turning the ball over. Cousins has 4 INTs, but it’s been fumbles that have been killing the VIkes in the first month of the season. Last week they forced the turnover that made the difference, but it hasn’t always been the case for the Vikings who have lost three games already, just one less then they did all of last season.

Mahomes trying to rally the offense

It’s been a bit of a strange season for Patrick Mahomes. A large portion of his WR corp left this offseason, and he had to pick up the pieces and start from scratch this season. KC are still third in the league in total yards per game, but they aren’t scoring at the rate we are used to. They are ninth in the league in points per game, sitting right above 25 ppg. Mahomes may not have the same amount of weapons on the offensive end, but his defense is showing that they are more and more capable of winning games when the offense isn’t clicking.

Vikings last week

It was a disastrous start for Kirk Cousins and the Vikings who marched down the field on their first drive of the game and got it to the 5 yard line before Cousins threw a pick six to give Carolina the early 7-0 lead after the redzone turnover. Cousins and the Vikes would respond, as the QB hit Justin Jefferson in the end zone on a four 4 yard TD pass, but two field goal from Carolina stretched their lead to 13-7 heading into halftime. It was the Minnesota defense that had the game changing play late in the third quarter, when Wonnum scooped and scored a Bryce Young fumble to give the Vikings their first lead of the game. Cousins would find Jefferson for a second time as the third quarter clock expired and Minnesota would hang on to the 21-13 lead until the finish line.

Chiefs last week

We have already gone over the fact that the Chiefs haven’t exactly looked like the Super Bowl team of last year. Their offense isn’t moving at a rate that we expect an offense led by Patrick Mahomes. Their defense, however is starting to make game winning plays, and last week they needed all the help they could get on the defensive end. After posting 17 unanswered points to start their Monday Night game against the Jets, their offense flatlined and they almost blew a big early lead. A flag in the end zone gave the Jets a safety for their first points of the game, and then Patrick Mahomes threw two picks before halftime as the just pulled the game to 20-12 going into the second half. NY tied the game with a TD on the first drive of the third quarter, but the Chiefs took the lead back with an early fourth quarter FG. Wilson and the Jets had a chance to tie or take the lead midway through the fourth quarter, but Wilson fumbled a snap around midfield and the Chiefs never gave the Jets the ball back.

We are live from Minnesota

Hello everyone and welcome to U.S. Bank Stadium where the Vikings return home after squeaking by the winless Carolina Panthers last week. It’s has been far from a dream start for Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings but despite the early disaster, there is still plenty of time to turn things around for Kevin O’Connell’s team. The Chiefs haven’t quite looked like the Chiefs that we have grown accustomed to over the last few years, but that hasn’t stopped them from starting the season 3-1, winning their last three games after dropping the opener to the Lions on Kickoff Thursday. The Chiefs are now more popular then ever, not because of their play on the field, but because of the budding relationship between KC TE Travis Kelce, and the most famous pop star on the planet Taylor Swift.

Chiefs @ Vikings

The Kansas City Chiefs take their three game winning streak on the road to Minnesota to take on a Vikings team who are coming off of their first win of the season. These two teams were two of the best teams in their respective conference last year, but things haven’t going to plan for the home team through the first month of the season. It’s a big match up between to explosive offenses, and AS English will be with you all afternoon, providing live coverage, stats, highlights and analysis from Minneapolis.
