CJ Gardner-Johnson apologizes to Eagles players after offseason trade to Houston
C.J. Gardner-Johnson was a key part of the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl title, but soon after the celebrations he was shipped off to the Houston Texans.

If there is one thing C.J. Gardner-Johnson can do other that lock up wide receivers is talk a big game. He took aim at his former team soon after getting traded but now he says he takes those statements back.
CJGJ retracts statements
Just a few months after helping bring the city of Philadelphia their second Super Bowl title, CJGJ was traded to the Houston Texans and he took aim at his former team and teammates. While predicting that he and his new team “would probably win the next three” Super Bowls, he said the Eagles “probably won’t see a ring without me.”
Gardner-Johnson spent the 2022 season with the Eagles before heading to Detroit for a year. He returned to Philly last season for the title run and was a big part of the Eagles success. He had six picks to tie his career high and had three tackles in the Super Bowl against KC back in February. In his time in Philly he came to respect a lot of the guys around the locker room, and those are the guys he has apologized to for his statements.

“It’s a disrespect to Jalen Carter, A.J. Brown—I can name all those guys on that team—Lane Johnson,” Gardner-Johnson told Ryan Clark on the Pivot podcast. “Because Lane is my big vet and Lane would tell me, ‘Hey, [C.J.], I got your back, but when you do too much, I don’t got your back. And that’s one of those moments that’s too much.’ Because it’s taken away from his career. He done it. He done it before me. Apologizing to the guys in Philly, I got nothing against them. And if they win six more rings without me, they deserve it, because that’s the type of players they are.”
Still bitter with the Eagles
While his sentiments towards the players he used to share a locker room have changed, his feelings towards the organization that traded him seem to remain just as strong. He claims that the Eagles traded them because they were “scared of a competitor.” Tracing back to a couple of instances on the practice field in Philly.
“We had a little scrum at practice,” he said. “Nothing, just offense versus defense, but who’s the culprit of it? Me. I guess, because we’re competing. Well, you tell me the period is live. You’re telling us not to compete during a live period, but it’s a live period, and we’re getting ready for a playoff game?”

The fact of the matter is the Eagles have made some changes to the Super Bowl winning roster in efforts to shave some costs in the City of Brotherly Love. Gardner-Johnson was traded for Kenyon Green from the Houston Texans because of financial reasons claimed Eagles GM Howie Roseman.
