CJ Stroud’s contract details: Salary and years remaining with Texans
The rookie Offensive Player of the Year is trying to prove to fans and foes he’s worth every penny of the money the Texans invested in him.

The former Ohio State quarterback, CJ Stroud, signed his groundbreaking contract in the NFL last season. Valued at an impressive $36.3 million for four years, the contract included an unprecedented bonus of $23.38 million. By the end of the contract in 2026, Stroud will have earned more than $36 million, with an average annual salary exceeding $9 million. What sets this contract apart from typical rookie contracts is that the entire bonus was paid immediately instead of being spread out over time.
In the 2024 season, Stroud is only making $750,000 on salary but his signing bonus takes him to $24.1 million.
The Texans have a franchise quarterback locked up through the 2026 season and, assuming he continues to play at this level, it is safe to assume the team will pick up his option for the 2027 season as well.
Stroud has led the Texans to the playoffs in 2024. They will face the Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on Saturday. The Texans’ QB got the team to the post season, but his numbers have been average in 2024 with a 50.1 QBR, 12 interceptions and 20 TDs. The young QB will have to find something special against KC to get the Texans to the next round of the NFL playoffs.
