If reports about his actions prove to be true, then the search for a new team will be the least of the problems facing the now former Browns defensive tackle.

If reports about his actions prove to be true, then the search for a new team will be the least of the problems facing the now former Browns defensive tackle.

From a disturbing video and accompanying audio to the very serious allegations of assault, the former Browns player could in fact be facing very serious consequences if found guilty of what he is accused of doing.

Browns release Perrion Winfrey amid assault investigation

According to a team announcement on Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns have released defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey. The move comes on the back of a report which indicated that Winfrey is currently under investigation for allegedly assaulting a woman, before showing her a firearm which he was carrying. As per reports, the women told police that they know Winfrey personally and had seen him in a hotel lobby. When the 22-year-old appeared to ignore them, one of them shouted an insult at him, at which point he became angry, proceeded to threaten them, and then in turn showed them a gun.

So, what exactly is Perrion Winfrey accused of doing?

To be clear, an alleged video of the incident was released on Tuesday night via Instagram Stories. In the footage, an individual who appears to be Winfrey can be seen following the women in downtown Cleveland. The accompanying caption read “Perrion Winfrey just chased us barefoot out of the nine, pointed his [gun emoji], stole both of my phones and pulled off.” Additionally, a voice can be heard saying repeatedly during the video, “You don’t think it’s on me? I will smack the s*** out of both of y’all.” At that point, the person recording can be heard saying, “Perrion, what are you about to do?”

The woman who appears to have stopped moving at this point in the footage then asks, “Right here, in front of all these people?” The camera proceeds to pan showing the surrounding area before it is snatched away. One can then hear the sounds of a scuffle as one of the women is heard saying, “Oh hell no, give me that s***.” Another voice can be heard shouting, “Give me that f***ing phone. F*** out of here.” Following the Instagram story, another post was made in which the same user states she’s “literally scared to go home,” before a third post with a photo that appears to show a bruise on her neck along with the caption “This is what you stand for?!?? @clevelandbrowns.” Sadly, this is not the first time that the Browns’ player has been on the wrong side of the law. As recently as April, Winfrey was arrested for assaulting a woman in Houston who he was reportedly dating. The victim was later granted a protection order against the 2022 fourth-round pick and charges were in fact dropped just last month. As for what this latest offense means for his future in the NFL, we can only wait and see.
