Cleveland Browns 22 vs 26 Pittsburgh Steelers summary, stats, scores and highlights | Week 2

On a night where not a whole lot was working on the offensive end, it was the defense that started the game and ended the game. 

Pickett went just 15/30 for 222 yards with a TD and a pick while the running game picked up 55 total yards, but Alex Highsmith and TJ Watt sealed the game with this strip sack and fumble recovery for a touchdown to improve to 1-1 on the year. 

Nick Chubb went down early in the 2nd quarter with was appears to be a serious knee injury. Jerome Ford stepped in at running back and broke this 69 yard run that led to a Browns TD to take the lead early in the third quarter. He ended the night with 106 yards on 16 carries. 

Before this Pickens 71 yard TD, the Steelers had just two first downs all game, but this big play gave the Steelers the momentum going into the halftime break. 

This time the Browns turned the TO into points after Grant Delpit, who made the intercetpion also recovered the fumble before fumbling himself. A few plays later the Browns were in the endzone for the first time Monday night. 

This was a sloppy games with turnovers on both sides, but the Browns couldn't convert after getting the ball with great field poisiton. Hopkins missed the FG and CLE came up empty on this possession. 

The Steelers started the game with a bang, as Watson was picked off by Highsmith on the opening play of the night, and he took it to the house to set Acrisure Stadium. 

IT'S ALL OVER!!!

The Steelers get their first win of the season after a fantastic game from Pittsburgh. Two defensive TDs make the difference in their Week 2 victory.

A false start backs the Browns up five yards to start the drive.

Timeout Browns with 3:02 before the PIT punt. That's their second of the half. 

Pickett with the QB keeper and he is dropped for a loos of two. 

4th and 3 from the PIT 32 and the Steelers will have to punt. 

Warren with the carry out of the shot gun and he breaks outside for 7 yards.

Harris gets a yard on the first down carry from the PIT 25. 

2nd and 9 from the PIT 26. 

Watson going deep for Goodwin, but that pass sails out of bounds and the Browns will have to punt hoping their defense can get them the ball back. 

4th and 13 from the CLE 33 with 4:44 to go in the fourth. 

Watson trying to extend the play, but eventually the Steelers get to him and drop him for a three yard loss.

Ford was met at the line but broke through a couple of tackles to fall forward for the first down.

Ford looked like he was going down for a loss of at least 5 but he shakes a couple tackles and takes it 9 yards on first down.

Highsmith had the pick six on the first play of the game and forced the fumble on his scoop and score for Watt.

PIT gave up Moore 10 yards of space to pick up the third and long conversion on a 16 yard pitch and catch on the sidelines.

Ford is swallowed up by Holcomb 4 yards behind the line and the Browns are backed up even further.

PIT goes three and out after the turnover and they will punt from the 33. 

Harris gets the delayed handoff and he is stopped at the line of scrimmage for no gain.

FUMBLE!!!

Watson hits Njoku in the middle of the field and he picked up about 10 before he fumbled and the Steelers recover it! Huge swing for the home side who force the third TO of the game!

1st and 10 from the PIT 44 with over 10 minutes to go. 

Watson shrugs off a tackle in the backfield and took it up the sideline for 9 yards, but Watson was called for his second facemask penalty of the night.

Ford picked up the first down with a 5 yard cut up the field on the right side but a holding call will back the Browns up.

Ford wrapped up at the line and he picked up maybe a yard.

Ford finds a hole and dives forward for a gain of 7 on first down. 

2nd and 3 from the PIT 36. 

Ford moves the chains on a 7 yard run up the middle.

Ford with the carry out of the shotgun and he gets four on first down.

Watson drops back and finds Cooper wide open on the deep crossing route for a 23 yard pick up.

Ford is stopped at the line for no gain on first down.

The catch stands as the Browns get a first down after the 18 yard pitch and catch.

Blitz came as Watson got rid of it on a back shoulder throw to Cooper who made the catch on the sideline!!! 

PIT will challenge the ruling on the field. 

Short out route to Akins and he is taken down in the open field after a short gain of 2. 

We are at the end of the third quarter and CLE will have 3rd and 6 from the 5 up by three heading into the final 15. 

Ford falls forward for two yards on first down and that give CLE a little breathing room.

End around to Austin and the Browns were waiting for him as they bring him down for a loss of two.

Harris was stopped in his tracks but reversed fields and too it for 17 yards as he had the Browns chasing.

PIT get the ball at the 20 after the touchback and Harris finally breaks a run for 20 yards up the left sideline!

Watson finds Ford underneath out of the backfield and he picks up 14 yards to get close to Steelers territory but the Browns will punt. 

4th and 11 from the CLE 48 and they will punt. 

Watson took a scramble to the right side for no gain, and a personal foul on Watson after the play will back the Browns up 15 yards.

Watson going to the endzone for Goodwin, but there was no one around but the defender Wallace who should have made the catch but it slipped right through his hands.

Pass over the middle to Cooper on the crossing route and that short pass goes for 7 yards.

With Chubb sidelined it's Jerome Ford who takes it 69 yards on the cut back run thanks to a great block from Watson to get down to the 1, setting up the Strong TD run. 

PIT take over from the 25, and Pickett's first down pass is batted down at the line.

Strong up the left side looking to punch it in and he is stunned by Roberts at the line of scrimmage.

Ford with an incredible run after changing directions in the backfield and got a block from Watson which sprung him 69 yards down to the one yard line!

FIELD GOAL STEELERS!!!

Boswell drills the 50 yard field goal after a tricky snap was handled and the Steelers extend their lead early in the third quarter. 

PIT lead 19-14 with under 12 to go in the third quarter. 

Pickens with a slant pattern on the left side and Pickett's pass is low and off the mark. 

4th and 2 from the CLE 31 and here comes PIT's FG unit. 

Pickett to Pickens to the right sideline and Pickens tried to leap over the defender, but was stood up after an 8 yard gain. 

3rd and 2 from the CLE 31. 

Warren gets the short handoff to the right side but he is chopped down at the line of scrimmage. 

2nd and 10 from the CLE 39. 

PIT going back to Warren who gets 6 yards on a burst up the middle for 6 yards and a first down. 

1st and 10 from the CLE 39. 

Warren gets 5 yards on first down, and that's the longest run of the night. 

2nd and 5 from the CLE 45. 

Pickett finds PIckens over the middle and he spins out of a tackle for a gain of 25 yards on third down!

WE ARE BACK IN PLAY FROM PITTSBURGH!

The Steelers are going to start the half with the ball at the 25 yard line. and Pickett was lucky not to get picked off by McCloud who had the ball right in his hands, but he dropped it. 

2nd and 10 from the PIT 25. 

The Steelers had just two first downs before this play, but Pickett found Pickens wide open down field and the young WR knew exactly what to do with it from there. He took it 71 yard for a TD. 

Pickett is 10/19 for 151 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Najee Harris and the run game are having a nightmare against this CLE defense. Harris has 4 yards on 6 carries and the Steelers have 1 yard on 8 carries as a unit. 

Watson hasn' had a great game, but did find Jerome Ford for the 4 yard TD pass. That play came just moments after Nick Chubb was carted off the field after suffering a serious knee injury on the first play of the second quarter. 

Watson is 10/21 for 102 yards, a TD and an INT through 30 minutes. 

Olszewski was popped and Delpit was there waiting to make the scoop, but then he fumbled the ball and almost gave it right back to the Steelers. This time the Browns would make the most of the PIT give away, punching in a TD just a few plays later. 

Just two possession later, Kenny Pickett returned the favor throwing this pass into the arms of Delpit, but the Browns couldn't make the most of the turnover after Hopkins missed the 43 yard field goal. 

On the first play of the game Watson gets picked off by Highsmith who took it to the house for the game's first score. 

PIT take a knee and we are finally heading to halftime after an eventful first 30 minutes from Acrisure Stadium.

Hopkins makes amends for his miss early in the half by banging home the 55 yard field goal!

CLE cut into the lead, but PIT are still up 16-14 with 22 seconds to go. 

There is Watt again! He gets to Watson and drops him for a loss of 7!

4th and 14 from the PIT 37. Timeout PIT with 27 seconds to go and CLE looking at a 57 yard field goal. 

Watson's pass is batted down again, this time by Watt and he finally gets his name called tonight.

Ford gets the handoff out of the shot gun and he is wrapped up after a gain of two yards.

Watson rolling to the left side, and his pass to Cooper is incomplete but a facemask on the Steelers will give the Browns a fresh set of downs.

CLE start the drive from the 25 and Watson skips a tackle to take a scramble for 8 yards but a holding call will bring that play back.

PIckett rolls left and lets it go on the move and his pass to Pickens is batted down on the sideline. PIT will punt from inside CLE territory. 

4th and 10 from the CLE 41. 

Pickett over the middle for Pickens on the crossing route but that throw was low and away.

Pickett was in Garrett's arms in the backfield but he flipped it to Warren which was almost intercepted but it falls incomplete.

Pickett fires one to the right sideline to Austin who was drapped by the defender but he makes the catch falling to the ground.

Harris is wrapped up again on second down, and he is getting no room to run. He has 4 yards on 6 carries.

A personal foul on CLE during the fair catch will put the Steelers at their 47 to start the drive. 

Screen pass to Freiermuth who is tripped up after a gain of 2 yards.

Moore stretched for it on the sidelines and made the catch but couldn't keep his second foot down. 

4th and 11 from the CLE 24 and the Browns go three and out for a third straight possession. 

Ford is dropped in the backfield for a loss of one by Alexander on second down.

CLE start the drive from the 25 and Watson looks for Cooper over the middle, but the pass was too far out in front of him.

The only big offensive play of the game leads to a George Pickens TD! Pittsburgh had just two first downs on the night before this 71 yard pass. 

Pickett found Warren short of the marker, but he fights through a couple tackles for a first down on an 11 yard catch and run. 

1st and 10 from the PIT 29. 

Pickett slipped on the drop back, recovered and let it go to Harris out of the backfield, but the RB couldn't make the catch. 

3rd and 10 from the PIT 18. 

PIT get the ball back from their 18 looking for a little continuity on the offensive end. 

Harris struggles just to get back to the line of scrimmage and the Browns are shutting the run game down.

Watson going over the top for Moore who made the catch he couldn't get his second foot inbounds and the Browns go three and out for a second straight drive.

Watson on the keeper after the option from the shotgun and he is stood up a yard behind the line of scrimmage.

A good punt return set up PIT with great field position but they have to settle for a field goal as the offense is held up yet again. 

CLE still lead 11-10 with 9:11 to go in the second quarter. 

Pickett looking for Pickens for just the second time tonight and that pass is behind the WR. Here comes the FG unit. PIT has had 5 possessions, and have just 1 first down all game. 

4th and 5 from the CLE 34. 

Harris gets the pass out of the backfield and he is spun down for no gain.

Harris bounces a run outside and finally gets a little room to pick up 5 yards.

PIT take over from the CLE 39 after a great return from Austin who took the punt back 14 yards.

Watson was under pressure and had to get rid of it in the end zone but Ford couldn't make the short catch at the line of scrimmage. 

4th and 12 from the CLE 7 and the Browns will punt. 

Watson is dropped for a two yard loss by Leal and the Browns are looking at 3rd and long from deep in their own territory.

CLE get the ball back from inside their 10 and let's see if their offense can recover after losing Chubb.

Pickett on the move looking for Austin down field but he got popped and the pass was overthrown on the sideline. 

4th and long and the Steelers will punt. 

Pass to the left side for Austin who had to turn his body to try to make the catch and couldn't reel it in.

Pickett hits Warren out of the backfield and he turns it up field for a big gain of 30 yards!

1st and 10 from the CLE 38 after the Steelers first first down tonight. 

Harris nosedives into the line and picks up maybe two yards. 

3rd and 3 from the PIT 32. 

PIT get the ball from the 25 looking for their first 1st down of the night. 

Pickett finds Robinson over the middle with a short pass for 5 yards. 

2nd and 5 from the PIT 30. 

The Browns with a wild recovery after the Olewszky fumble sets up the first CLE TD of the night. 

Chubb rolling over defenders and he picks up 5 yards, but he stays down on the ground holding his left leg and that is a terrible sight to see if you are a Browns fans. ABC is declining to show the replay, so that means that something serious just happened to Chubb. 

2nd and Goal form the PIT 3. 

Watson over the middle and he finds Cooper for a 12 yard pick up and a first down!

1st and Goal from the PIT 8. 

Chubb gets the first down handoff from the PIT 23 and he takes it up the gut for three yards. 

2nd and 7 from the PIT 20 and that will officially bring us to the end of the first quarter. 

FUMBLE!!!

A false start on Okorafor backs the Steelers up five yards, and on 1st and long, Pickett looks for Olew... who makes the catch and is immediately stripped and Delpit made the recovery! He took it back to the PIT 14 before fumbling and it was knocked out of bounds at the 9. 

What a mess this first quarter has been! Four turnovers, two between both teams and not much offense in between. 

FUMBLE!!!

After review the fumble is deemed to have been recovered by Pittsburgh, and the Browns turn it over for the second time this half!

PIT take over from their 41 yard line with 22 second put back on the first quarter clock. 

Tomlin threw the challenge flag during the break after replays show Watson had the ball punched out of his hands when he lunged forward and PIT want the refs to review the spot of the recovery. 

It was 4th and 1 and Watson didn't get it by much. 

Watson on the option look out of the shot gun and Watson takes it between the tackles for just enough to move the chains. 

That will keep the drive alive from the PIT 42 as we come to the end of the first quarter!

Watson rolling left and let it go for Moore who had it in his hands, but it was knocked out by Highsmith. Another great play by HIghsmith. 

4th and 1 from the PIT 43 and the Browns will go for it. 

Ford gets the handoff on 2nd and short but he is stood up at the line of scrimmage. 

3rd and 1 from the PIT 43. 

Chubb gets it again and picks up 9 yards on first down with another bruising run. 

2nd and 9 from the PIT 43. 

Chubb breaks his first one of the night, right up the gut and he breaks a couple of arm tackles for a 20 yard chunk. 

1st and 10 from the CLE 48. 

Watson looking to the right sidleine and Cooper skies for it and makes the catch at it's highest point for a 17 yard pick up. 

1st and 10 from the CLE 28. 

Chubb got the handoff again and might have slipped before getting to the line of scrimmage, losing a yard. 

3rd and 3 from the CLE 11. 

Chubb with the first down handoff with the Browns back against the wall and he gets them some breathing room on a 7 yard carry.

The Steelers gave it right back on their second offensive possession, but the Browns couldn't make anything of it after the missed Hopkins FG. 

Great punt from Harvin which pins the Browns inside the 5 and they will have a long field to work with. 

1st and 10 from the CLE 5. 

After a false start made third down even longer, PIckett hits Warren in the flat and he follows a few blocker for a nice gain of 15, but the penalty yardage will force the Steelers to punt. 

4th and 3 from the PIT 40. 

Harris is shut down again this time from no gain on his run to the left side. 

3rd and 13 from the PIT 30. 

PIT start their second drive from the 33 after the missed FG and Harris is dropped on the sweep play for a loss of three yards.

2nd and 13 from the PIT 30. 

MISSED FIELD GOAL!!!

Another mistake from the Browns as Hopkins misses the 43 yard field goal wide left and Cleveland can't convert after the turnover in the red zone. 

PIT lead 7-3 with 6:38 to go in the first quarter. 

Watson's pass to the left side falls incomplete on 3rd and long and the Browns will have to bring out their FG unit for the second time tonight. 

4th and 25 from the PIT 25. 

Screen pass set up for Njoku who is cut down for a short gain of one after the Steelers sniffed it out. 

3rd and 16 from the PIT 25. 

The defense comes up with a big play after the turnover, and it's Ogunjobi who brings down Watson on a 7 yard sack.

Pickett gives one right back to the Browns, seeking Pickens on the slant and Delpit broke on the ball and made the interception!

What a start to the game for the Pittsburgh Steelers who needed a pick me up after a dreadful opener to the season last week. Highsmith makes the INT and takes it back to the house on the first play of the game.

Hopkins comes on to the field for the first time and drills a 43 yarder to the Browns first points of the night. 

Steelers lead 7-3, but that was a nice recovery after an early turnover from the Browns. 

Watson's pass is batted down by Porter as Moore was defended well down the field. 

4th and 8 and the Browns bring out the FG unit at the PIT 25. 

Chubb gets the penalty yardage back with a 10 yard run, but the Browns are still looking at 3rd and long.

Chubb up the middle for a big chunk, but that run is coming back after a hold on Jones.

TONIGHT'S ODDS

The Browns come into tonight as the as two point favorites on the road with the Over/Under at 39.5. 

I'm taking the Browns tonight after an impressive win against the Bengals last week. 

Browns ground game

It seems silly to think after the Browns hung 200 yards rushing on the Bengals last week, but there were some questions about the Cleveland rushing attack after Kareem Hunt left the team this offeseason. Last week Nick Chubb carried the load, going for 106 yards on 18 carries, but Jermore Ford had 36 yards and Elijah Moore added another 19 as the Browns rushed for 206 total yards in the season opener.

How about this for a stat thanks to our friends at SI.com? The Steelers have only lost 12 games by 20 points or more in Mike Tomlin’s head coaching stint in Pittsburgh. In the games following those blowout losses the Steelers are 10-2. This is a coach who knows how to respond when the city is on high alert, and tonight the Steelers will be looking to calm the nerves of the Steel City with a statement win against one of the en vouge teams of the early season. 

Back in the Burg

The Steelers are back at home after a dismal day in front of their home fans last Sunday. Not often does a preseason give fans rile fans spirits and raise expectations, but Kenny Pickett’s preseason had Steelers Nation buzzing. He went 13/15 for 199 yards and a touchdown against many teams’ first unit. That was enough to set this city ablaze with playoff dreams, but the harsh reality of a Week 1 blow still sticks with them. Tonight could be an early make or break game for this young Steelers team. 

Browns enter enemy lines

The Cleveland Browns made noise in their season opener dropping the Bengals, and keeping them out of the end zone all day. With the run game as strong as it is and Myles Garrett anchoring the defense, the Browns are a contender in the AFC North. If they can get their quarterback Deshaun Watson to look like a shade of what he was in Houston this team may not just be trying to win the division, with the Bills, Chiefs and Bengals looking underwhelming they might have a chance at the AFC title. 

Steelers last week 

It was an opening day to forget for the Pittsburgh Steelers last week as the Niners came in and gave a lecture on what a Super Bowl contender looks like to a team that came into this season with the playoffs in their crosshairs. In their first four drives they went three and out three times and Pickett threw an interception as San Fran climbed out to a 20-0 lead. There was a ray of opportunity when the Steelers punched in a late first half touchdown, but Christian McCaffery’s 65 yard TD dash took the wind out of the Steelers sails and the Niners cruised to a 30-7 victory. 

Browns last week 

The Browns went old school last week against the Bengals, using a strong running game and a stout defense in a blowout win over the division leaders from last year. A still recovering Joe Burrow passed for just 82 yards as Cincinnati didn’t enter the redone once throughout the entire 60 minutes. All the while the running game went for 206 yards, led by Nick Chubb’s 106 yards and Deshaun Watson’s 45 yards and a TD. Watson ended the day with 154 yards and a passing TD as the Browns pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Hello everyone and welcome to Pittsburgh where the Steelers are looking to put a terrible Week 1 in the rear view against a tough Cleveland team that had one of the upsets of the opening week of games. After a promising preseason, Kenny Pickett and the Steelers offense looked dreadful against a potent Niners defense which deflated the home crowd and sounded alarms around the city. Tonight they return home looking to get back into the good graces of their fans but it won’t be easy against a tough Browns defense that kept the Bengals to just three points last week.
