The media tour continues for new Las Vegas Raiders coach Pete Carroll who had his introductory press conference at Allegiant Stadium earlier this week. Just a few days after closing the deal with the Raiders, those in Sin City want answers about the future of the team, specifically the QB position.
Seahawks reunion on the Strip?
When paying a visit to the “What the Football with Suzy Shuster & Amy Trask” podcast” on Wednesday, Carroll was asked about former quarterback in his time as coach of the Seattle Seahawks, Russell Wilson, and a potential reunion on the Las Vegas strip.
Wilson spent the year with the Pittsburgh Steelers, taking them to the playoffs after a couple of disastrous seasons with the Denver Broncos. Now Wilson is a free agent, but has expressed his desire to stay with Mike Tomlin and the Steelers.
Carroll was coy in his response. He didn’t confirm or deny any interest. Instead he laid out the sequence in which the Raiders will have to worry about things. “It’s so early, and we’re just in the midst of trying to find the puzzle pieces. We’re not even putting them together yet, so I can’t even say,” Carroll said. “Free agency hasn’t come yet. That’s the first competitive opportunity that will occur. Then, the draft is coming. We’ll have that opportunity. I can’t tell you right now. I could guess, but it would just be a guess.”
Wilson and Carroll won a Super Bowl and came up just short of winning another in their 10 seasons together in Seattle, but reports of a rift between the two at the end of Russell’s time there might just complicate things.
