The Green Bay Packers followed up their big win over the Detroit Lions with a convincing win over the Washington Commanders to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Update:

Show key events only

The Packers responded with a relentless drive that took six minutes off the clock and essentially put the game out of reach for a Washington team that could barely move the ball. Jordan Love was great, going 19/31 for 292 yards and 2 TDs, but Tucker Kraft was incredible catching 6 passes for 124 yards and this game sealer early in the 4th quarter.

This was a contest to see who might be the contenders to Philly's crown in the NFC. We come out of Thursday night thinking the Packers are a legit threat to the Super Bowl champs. The Commanders will have some work to do. They got exposed in a number of different ways against a much better Packers team tonight.

It took the Commanders more than three quarters to get into the end zone, but finally Daniels connected with Zach Ertz and all of the sudden there was hope for a team that seemed to be out of the game since the start.

If Micah Parsons looked good in his debut, he looked great on a night where he played a majority of the snaps. He was constantly in the face of Jayen Daniels and got this half sack and a couple of tackles in what was a dominant display from the defense.

A few plays later it was Josh Jacobs punching the ball into the end zone on another 90+ yard drive. This one was a 92 yard drive, but the Packers showed no signs of struggle just as they did against the Lions last week.

The Packers were rolling in the first half, and it seemed like the Commanders defense was a step behind all night. It didn't matter how good the defense here because this throw and catch from Malik Heath was perfect in every sense. It was originally called an incompletion but after review the refs saw Heath got both feet down.

The next Packers possession would start inside of their five yard line, but Love marched his team down the field and capped the 96 yard drive with this slant pass to Romeo Doubs for the games first score.

It was a game dominated by the Green Bay Packers from start to finish. This was supposed to be a match up of to potential Super Bowl contenders, but there was only one team that played up to that caliber on Thursday night.

Believe it or not, the first highlight of the night was a pass break up from the Commanders on a 4th and short on the first possession of the game. Jordan Love had his man open, but left it short of Matthew Golden and the pass was batted away. That was about the only mistake Love made all game.

IT'S ALL OVER!!!

The Packers win convincingly over the Commanders to further establish their dominance in the NFC.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM GREEN BAY!!!

The Packers get the ball to start the game after Washington wins the toss and differs.

White out in the summer

It may not be snowing yet in the Frozen Tundra, but expect a White Out at Lambeau Field tonight. The Packers are pulling out all the stops for their first primetime game of the season. Green Bay players will get an extra little boost when they put on these fresh jerseys equipped with the white helmets and the white pants. The last time they wore these unis was last October when Jordan Love drove the Pack down the field to set up a game winning Brandon McManus 45 field goal as time expired.

Terry McLaurin holdout

A lot of the news around the nation’s capital during the preseason revolved around Terry McLaurin. For a long time it looked like Daniels favorite target last year was on his way out. Trade offers were being lined up around the league as the front office and the pass catcher struggled to come to an agreement. Finally in the last week of August, McLaurin put pen to paper on a three year, $97 million deal, but he missed a good chunk of time to get ready to the for the season. Last week

The new look NFC

Things are changing in the NFC. The Eagles are the defending champs and until someone knocks them off the throne. The Green Bay Packers have been building something from the ground up for a few years now and in Week 1 they looked like they are ready to blossom. All of the sudden GB is one of the favorites in the NFC, and with the addition of Micah even more. Minnesota had a big win last week, but are they the same 3 loss team from last year? Same goes for the Lions. Then there’s the Commanders who got to the NFC Championship in Jayden Daniels rookie year, and this team is expected to be even better this year. There’s the Niners out west and the Falcons and Bucs looking to make noise too, but this game is one to bookmark because if I was a betting man I’d lay down some cash to see one or both of these teams in the NFC Championship come January.

The Micah Parson Project

The Cheeseheads got their first look at Micah Parsons last Sunday in Lambeau, but that was just an appetizer of what’s to come this season and over the next few years. He played 29 snaps, in those plays Goff got sacked three times, once by Parsons, and allowed an average of 2.4 yards per play. Obviously the pressure he applied on Jared Goff doesn’t show up on the stats sheets, but he was getting past future Hall of Famer Penei Sewell on all of those plays. Don’ forget he didn’t participate in any of the preseason while his holdout was going on and he’s been dealing with a back injury. If that was him with little prep and a little hindered, the rest of the league better watch out.

What a start for Samuel

Jayden Daniels has another weapon in his arsenal this year and he goes by the name of Deebo. Samuel had a stellar start in the Bay era with the Niners, but production dwindled in the last few years and so did the relationship. San Fran traded Deebo to Washington to give the dual threat WR/RB a breath of new life in the nation’s capital. He wasted no time making a big impact in his Commanders debut, catching 7 passes for 77 yards and had a 19 yard TD run that buried the Giants for good and sealed the Week 1 win. Cliff Kingsbury looks like he has already figured out a way to get Deebo involved in the offense and you know Daniels is always going to welcome more firepower at the WR position.

Jayden Daniels’ wrist, Deebo Samuel’s magic: What to watch vs Packers

Daniels damaged?

After the Commanders Week 1 win over the Lions, there was a surprise addition to the injury list on Monday. Jayden Daniels was put on the list sighting a wrist injury that he suffered during the game against the Giants. He finished the game and didn’t show any signs of trouble during the season opener. He has participated in practice everyday since Monday and should be a go for tonight, but we will monitor both how he is throwing the ball and how he approaches situations when he needs to use his legs.

Star watch: Packers

The transition was almost flawless. Jordan Love took the reins after the Aaron Rodgers era in Green Bay and led the Packers to the playoffs in his first two seasons as the QB1 in Lambeau. He had a brilliant debut season throwing for over 4,000 yards and 32 TDs. Last year his numbers were a little more modest, but there was a little more balance in the offense with Josh Jacobs in the backfield. Last week against the Lions, it didn’t take a heroic effort to down Detroit. He went 16/22 for 188 yards and thew two TDs in his season debut. Tonight he will go up a defense that didn’t allow a TD in the Week 1

Star watch: Commanders

There is such a thing as a sophomore slump. It happens to some second year players, but not all of them. The Commanders will be hoping that Jayden Daniels is one of those guys that gets better in the year after his rookie season. Last season will be tough to top considering he won the Rookie of the Year, throwing for 3,568 yards, 25 TDs, 9 INTs while completing 69% of his passes. Not to mention he led the Commanders to the NFC Championship. Last week he had a light day, going 19/30 for 233 yards an 1 TD and rushed for another 68 yards. Tonight it’s not going to be as comfortable against a Packers defense that was already good before the season but getting one of the best defenders in the league right before Week 1 is only going to make them better.

Last game: Packers

There were a lot of impressive performances from teams in Week 1, but I don’t think there was a single score line that made you say “Wow” more than the Packers win over the Lions. It was complete and utter domination from the Cheeseheads from the very start. The Pack scored a TD on their opening drive and led 17-3 early in the second quarter after scoring o their first three possessions. The defense kept a high powered, high flying offense out of the end zone until the final minute of the game but but by that time the game was long over after an efficient and effective performance from QB Jordan Love who went 16/22 for 188 yards and two TDs.

Last game: Commanders

It wasn’t the most dominant performance of the opening weekend, but the Commanders never seemed in any danger in their game against the New York Giants. Jayden Daniels connected with Zach Ertz on a 7 yard TD pass and that would be all the Commanders needed to take down the Giants. Washington’s defense kept Russell Wilson and the Giants out of the end zone all day and held them to 6 points through four quarters. Rookie Croskey-Merritt scored his first TD of his young career in the 2nd quarter, and Deebo Samuel capped off a successful debut in the nation’s capital with a TD on a jet sweep to announce his arrival to Commanders fans.

We are live from Lambeau

Hello everyone and welcome to Green Bay where there is one big question hovering over the Tundra tonight. Could these be the toughest teams in the NFC outside the Philadelphia? The Packers are back home after their Week 1 obliteration of the Detroit Lions, and all of the sudden the Packers have risen to the top of the NFC in the minds of just about everyone around the league. The Washington Commanders came into this season with high hopes and their comfortable win over the Giants did nothing to dilute those expectations after the first week of the season. Tonight they get their first real test as they go on the road to take on a team they very well could see at some point in the playoffs come January.
