WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM BALTIMORE!!!

Today's odds

The Commanders have the better record, but at home and on a roll, the Ravens come into today as a 7 point favorite with the Over/Under set at 51.5.

The Ravens are a tricky team. They can blow teams out in the first few quarters, but lose their heads in the final fifteen minutes. While that has been a struggle this year, I think this is the day they come out and play a full 60 minutes. I’d stay away from the Over/Under because the matchups between high scoring teams tend to underwhelm.

Ravens win 27-13.

Head to head series

These two teams are practically neighbors, but they have only ever played seven times before. The first matchup cam back in 1997 when the Ravens beat the then Redskins 20-17. Since then the Ravens and Commanders are 3-3 in the last six games. The last match up came in Washington back in October of 2020 when the Ravens won 31-17 when Lamar Jackson threw two TD passes to Mark Andrews and ran for a 50 yard TD.

Battle of the two top offenses

Expect fireworks today in Baltimore. This a matchup between the two top offenses in the league. With Lamar Jackson under center and Derrick Henry in the backfield the Ravens have gone from a good offensive team to a juggernaut. They may have lost their first two games, but by no fault of of the offense. They gain the most yards per game of any team in the league at 447.6 ypg, almost half of that coming on the ground (211.2) while scoring 29.4 points per game, 2nd in the league only to the team they play today. The Commanders are scoring 31 points per game, rushing for 178.4 yards per game, which is second in the NFL and are gaining a total of 392.6 yards per game which is tied for 4th in the league with the Packers. Don’t blink for the next four quarters because these two high octane offenses are liable to light up the score board at the snap of the fingers.

Star Watch: Commanders

There are a lot of players that have shown out in this surprise start for the Commanders but we would be remiss if we didn’t highlight Jayden Daniels in the star watch part of our preview. The rookie quarterback isn’t just having a season that should make him a shoe in for Rookie of the Year, he is a serious MVP contender. After losing the first game of the season, he has this offense rolling and is the most accurate quarterback in the league. In his first year on the job. The Redskins/Football Team/Commanders haven’t had a quarterback to get excited about in a long, long time. Daniels has people in the nation’s capital believing that he is the guy that is going to return then to relevance in the NFC.

Star watch: Ravens

The two time MVP, gunning for his third, has been playing out of his mind this season. Even in the two losses, Lamar Jackson was spectacular and now the rest of the team is catching up. Jackson may not have the most passing yards in the league, but his TD to INT ration is the best of any QB around the NFL. He has thrown 9 TDs and just 1 INT and has another 2 TDs on the ground. His 1,206 yards passing is good enough for 9th, but with Derrick Henry he doesn’t have to pass the ball all game line. In their two most comfortable wins of the season he had 18 pass attempts and 15 pass attempts.

Season recap: Commanders

With a new coach and a rookie QB, not much was expected from this team that was one of the worst in the league last year. Dan Quinn has turned the culture around in the nation’s capital and Jayden Daniels is leading the top offense in the league. They lost their opener against the Bucs, but they rebounded with a last second win over the New York Giants the next week. They too were locked in a shootout with Cincinnati but just edged out Burrow and the Bengals who tried to make a second half comeback after trailing by 15 in the third quarter. Their last two games against the Cardinals and the Browns they have won by a combined 49 points to put them at the top of the NFC East and only trailing the conference leading Vikings by a game.

MVP Race after Week 5: Mahomes top spot, OT winner for Jackson, Stroud tops Allen, rookie Daniels

MVP Odds after Week 5

For the first time this season, and maybe ever there is a rookie QB in the top five of the oddsmakers MVP favorites after Week 5. Jayden Daniels probably deserved to be on it earlier, but the odds makers were probably giving him a few weeks to see if the performances would fade as the rookie gets deeper into the season. The opposite has happened, and if he beats the Ravens today, he could leap frog Lamar Jackson who is sitting second only behind Patrick Mahomes in the MVP race.

Season recap: Ravens

The Ravens were hyped up to be the team that was going to knock off the Kansas City Chiefs after getting to the AFC Championship, but falling just short of Super Bowl Sunday. They came out and lost the rematch against the Chiefs by a big toe, and then were stunned by the Las Vegas Raiders. They got their first win of the year in Dallas when they blew out the Cowboys to calm the waters in Baltimore. They smashed Buffalo in primetime to let everyone know they mean business in the AFC, and last week they went into a tough divisional game against a desperate team in the Bengals. They come into this game leading the AFC North and trying to keep up with Chiefs for the top spot in the conference.

Last game: Commanders

The Commanders came out and stomped the Cleveland Browns last week, going up 24-3 in the first Brian Robinson ran in a couple of first half TDs and Jayden Daniels threw a late TD pass right before the halftime break to extend the lead to 21. The defense would do the heavy lifting from there on out as Daniels ended the day with 238 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT and 82 rushing yards. The rookie led his team to their fourth straight win while sending Cleveland into a spiral of chaos coming into this weekend.

Last game: Ravens

The Ravens have been notorious for blowing late, double digit leads not just this year, but over the last few years. Last week they trailed by double digits for most of the second half. Lamar Jackson put on his Superman cape and made some spectacular plays to bring Baltimore back in the game and eventually force overtime in Cincinnati. Jackson and Joe Burrow had a shoot out from Paycor Stadium. Burrow went for nearly 400 yards, and 5 TDs but Jackson had 348 yards and four TDs and forced OT after setting up Justin Tucker with a game tying field goal with 1:35 to go. Jackson would fumble the ball on the opening possession of OT, but a missed field goal from Evan McPherson opened the door for the Ravens to win the game. Derrick Henry rattled off a 51 yard run to set up Tucker’s game winning FG fro 24 yards out.

We are live from Baltimore

Hello everyone and welcome to Baltimore where the Ravens are back home looking like the team everyone excepted them to be at the beginning of the season. After a bumpy first couple weeks, Baltimore has rattled off three straight wins following their overtime game against the Cincinnati Bengals last week. The Commanders came out and dominated yet another team last week in Washington. They have the top scoring offense, led by a rookie quarterback and today they will face their toughest test of the season. Will the Ravens hand the Commanders a dose of reality, or will this young team led by their rookie QB continue shred through the NFL?
