Cooper Kupp wants a ‘fair’ deal with LA Rams
With both parties wanting to continue on their current path, it would seem an agreement shouldn’t be hard to reach. All that’s left is the negotation.
On the way to winning a Super Bowl the Rams excelled in a lot of areas like receptions for example and that was courtesy of their new star.
Cooper Kupp wants ‘fair’ contract
If there is one take away from the Rams’ 2021/22 season it’s that Cooper Kupp is a genuine star. In a year in which he would be named Super Bowl MVP, Kupp caught 145 passes for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. That of course was before the big game itself where he caught eight of 10 targets for a total of 92 yards and two touchdowns as LA went on to beat the Cincinnati Bengals and become champions.
That brings us to the offseason and what an offseason it’s been. With the likes of Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill being traded in massive deals to teams who definitely had the cash to splash, the WR position has come under focus and with that in mind, there is a growing discomfort between receivers who are up for renewal and their respective teams. Where Kupp is concerned one can only imagine the kind of numbers that could be discussed when his time comes. Yet according to Kupp himself, he’s not interested in that. The Rams star recently said that he is in fact not looking surpass anybody else’s contract, but simply wants a fair deal. “I don’t think that’s really kind of the approach that I take,” Kupp said via ESPN. “I definitely think there’s a place you want to be. There’s a place that you feel like is fair. A place for me and for this organization. ... I’m not trying to beat anybody. I’m not trying to compare myself to anyone else. It’s more about being in a place that’s just right for both sides.”
Where is Cooper Kupp’s contract now?
With two years remaining on his current deal, one might think that there is still time, but expect the Rams to begin negotiations in the near future. Remember this is a player who became the first first player since 2005 to win the NFL’s triple crown i.e. leading the NFL in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. To put that in perspective, he’s only the fourth player since 1970 to accomplish the feat. Without doubt Kupp has now established himself as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. With his skill set and the QB and coach who support him its quite likely - especially considering this year’s success - that we will see Kupp and the Rams coming to an agreement soon enough.
To add further weight to the idea of a positive outcome for both parties, Rams coach Sean McVay said Tuesday that there has been “good dialogue” with both Kupp and star defensive tackle Aaron Donald concerning new contracts and said getting deals done with both “are still at the forefront of our thoughts.”
Cooper Kupp as dedicated as ever to the Rams
With reports shining a light on the way in which other WRs are staying out of voluntary offseason training camps as they seek new contracts, the contrast with Kupp’s approach is telling. The Rams’ star receiver has been attending and more over believes they are important. “Well, I think it’s important to be here, be around the guys and be around this team,” he said. “The goal at the end of the day is to win a world title. Whatever is going to get us in a place where we can compete for another world title, put us in a better position where we can be a better football team, that’s the goal. I think the best thing I can do is to be a part of that ...”
