Cowboys 20-24 Eagles, summary: score, stats, highlights | NFL Week 1
A Jalen Carter suspension, an hour-long weather delay, and a 4-point game. The NFL season opener brought the drama.
Eagles beat Cowboys 24-20
Eagles defeat Cowboys by 4 in thrilling season opener
It wasn't the blowout I (and many others) expected by any means. It was an exciting game that saw Dallas and Philly go back and forth for nearly its entirety.
Cowboys rookie running back Javonte Williams showed promise early on with two touchdowns in the first half - a welcome change to Dallas' lack of a run game last season. CeeDee Lamb had some good plays, but they were overshadowed by three crucial drops in the second half. Dak Prescott looked more collected than usual and seems to be in much better shape than last season, even before the hamstring injury.
Jalen Hurts looked as calm and collected as ever, rushing for 62 yards and two touchdowns. RB SaquonBarkley didn't have his typical monster game, but still finished with 60 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.
Micah Parsons' absence was definitely felt on the Dallas defense as Hurts scrambled away with ease on nearly every play under pressure. New defensive tackle Kenny Clark, acquired in the Parsons trade, did decently with five tackles (two solo).
An hour-long weather delay occurred in the second half, with 4:44 to go in the third quarter. It happened just after Philly made a critical turnover. Byron Young forced a fumble on Dallas RB Miles Sanders in the red zone. The delay visibly threw all the players off. On both teams' first possessions, they were forced to punt it away after being held to 4th down.
In the end, the Cowboys put up a good fight against the Eagles, but missed a golden opportunity to beat the defending champions in the NFL opener.
Cowboys start the season 0-1 and Eagles begin their journey to a repeat Super Bowl with their first win of the season.

Eagles Super Bowl banner ceremony
Ahead of the game, the Eagles will unveil their Super Bowl LIX banner, and while Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb said he'll be watching for "motivation", the Eagles have a completely different mindset.
QB Jalen Hurts says, “Nothing I’ve accomplished in the past will get me what I desire in the future,” as the Eagles prepare to defend their Super Bowl crown. Coach Nick Sirianni stressed that the team won’t be distracted by Thursday’s banner ceremony against Dallas, with leaders emphasizing process and daily improvement.
“We’re focused on our process and how we get better every single day. If your process is right, then it gives you the best chance to win,” Sirianni said this summer. “It doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to win, but it gives you the best chance to win. Our goal is just to focus and to focus on where we are at this particular moment, to put the work in, to overcome the adversity and the rest will take care of itself.”

Cowboys vs Eagles INJURY REPORT
Eagles
Philly heads into the season opener mostly healthy. The only player who's been fully ruled out isbackup quarterback Tanner McKee as he deals with a right thumb injury. Listed on the final report are DL Jalen Carter (Shoulder), G Landon Dickerson (Back), G Joshua Uche (Groin), and DB Andrew Mukuba (Hamstring), but all were full participants and are expected to play against the Cowboys tonight.
Cowboys
The Cowboys have ruled out interior defender Perrion Winfrey, who suffered a back injury in Sunday’s practice. CB Trevon Diggs (Knee), OT Tyler Guyton (Knee), and TE Brevin Spann-Ford (Ankle) were full participants in practice and should suit up vs the Eagles.
Odd choice, but okay, go off Dak

Eagles vs Cowboys: What to expect
Oh, I fully expect a Cowboys beatdown by the Eagles.
Let's look at some of the highlights of each team's offseason before getting into the outlook.
Cowboys:
- Hired Schotty as HC
- Traded to acquire WR George Pickens
- Signed free agents RB Javonte Williams, DT Dante Fowler, and OL Hakeem Adeniji
- Traded DE Micah Parsons to the Packers
- Drafted G Tyler Booker and DE Donovan Ezeiruaku
Eagles:
- Extended Saquon Barkley, making him the highest-paid RB in league history
- Released DB James Bradbury and CB Darius Slay
- Traded S CJ Gardner-Johnson for G Kenyon Green
- Drafted LB Jihaad Campbell and S Andrew Mukuba
Eagles vs Cowboys prediction
Earlier this week, I wrote about the Cowboys' banged-up secondary. Their CB depth is riddled with injuries. Thankfully, it looks like Trevon Diggs has been cleared to play, but he's sure to be rusty after coming back from an ACL injury. Against the Eagles offense led by QB Jalen Hurts and with WRs A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith, that's bad news for Dallas.
Dallas traded away their biggest weapon on defense (Parsons, obviously), but they did bring on DE Kenny Clark, which should help a little. Wagering it won't be enough to stop Barkley, who I fully expect to run circles around the Dallas D. As for Dallas' offense, they have two things they didn't have last year against the Eagles - a healthy Prescott and a new receiving weapon in Pickens. Unfortunately, they didn't improve the run game much, so that looks to still be a weak spot.
Overall, Philly has kept the majority of players and the game plan that won them the Lombardi Trophy last season, while Dallas made a few decent moves and a lot of questionable ones.
Philly takes this one, easy.
Let's recap...
It's been a while, and I'm sure none of you have forgotten how the Eagles' season ended. The Cowboys, on the other hand, had a forgettable season...or at least, one they'd like to forget. Here's a little refresher of what happened in the 2024 season.
The Eagles obviously won Super Bowl LIX, beating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22. It was their first season with running back Saquon Barkley and he was the star of their offense with a 2,000-yard season. They finished the regular season 14-3, with two of those losses coming in the first four weeks of the season.
The Eagles swept the Cowboys for the first time since 2011.
The Cowboys ended the regular season with a 7-10 record, and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9, but even before that, he was on track for one of his worst career seasons. At the end of the season, Dallas parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy and hired their offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to replace him.
