Cowboys’ Jerry Jones has offered another update on Micah Parsons situation - this is what he said
Amid the Dallas Cowboys’ contract standoff with Parsons, franchise owner Jones has again discussed the situation with reporters.

Nearly two weeks have passed since Micah Parsons requested a trade from the Dallas Cowboys, and the star linebacker has remained silent as his future with the team hangs in the balance.
“All you’ve got to go on are contracts”
Despite the uncertainty, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he expects his top defensive player to be on the field when Dallas opens the regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles - citing Parsons’ rookie contract as the binding factor.
“All you’ve got to go on are contracts - we’re negotiating for a contract,” Jones told reporters. “When you do a contract, you would hope that after a negotiation that’s what both the team and player look to to see what our obligations are. I have a lot of respect for a contract.”
Parsons is seeking a contract extension, as his current deal with the Cowboys expires at the end of the 2025 season. The Penn State alum is set to earn a base salary of $24 million this year, after making $17.079 million over his first four seasons in the NFL.
“We might or might not talk”
Jones confirmed that there’s “nothing” preventing negotiations from moving forward, but his comments to Jon Machota of The Athletic were notably vague. “We might or might not talk,” he stated, adding: “The rest gets into what we do every day.”
Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Parsons has played 63 regular-season games over four seasons, racking up 256 tackles and 52.5 sacks. He was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021 and has earned Pro Bowl honors every season since entering the league.

Jones pleased with Parsons’ presence at training camp
Despite the contract drama, Parsons has shown up to Cowboys training camp nearly every day - missing just one session due to back soreness. His consistent presence has been a bright spot for Jones.
“I’m glad he’s been here,” Jones said. “It’s important for the team, teammates. It’s important for him to pick up all the coaching and the nuances.”
