Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey has given his input on which teams he thinks will win the UEFA Euro 2024 final between Spain and England and who will win the Copa América final between Colombia and Argentina. Both finals will be this Sunday. Aubrey happens to know his stuff when it comes to soccer, as he used to play professional soccer long before joining the NFL.

Aubrey with the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys signed kicker Brandon Aubrey in 2023 and he had an incredible debut, making both of his field goal attempts and five extra-point attempts in the Cowboys’ 40-0 shutout over the New York Giants. He later set a record for most consecutive field goals made to start a career when he made his 19th attempt against the Philadelphia Eagles. In Week 14, Aubrey made four field goals and became the first kicker in NFL history to make two field goals from 59+ yards in the same game. He finished the season leading the league in scoring with 157 points and an NFL-high 36 field goals.

Aubrey’s soccer background

Aubrey started out as a soccer player, playing center back for the Dallas Texans SC youth team from 2008 to 2010 and winning several awards with the team. He played for Plano Senior High School and later played college soccer at the University of Notre Dame between 2013 and 2016. In 2017, he was selected 21st overall in the MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC. He was loaned to the second team, USL’s Toronto FC II for the season, and made his debut in March that year. In 2019, he signed with USL’s Bethlehem Steel FC and was released in 2018.

It was his wife Jenn who encouraged him to go for the NFL after that. They were watching an NFL game together in which a kicker missed a field goal, and she told him, “you could do that”. And he could. And then he did.

Who did Brandon Aubrey pick to win the Eurocup and Copa América?

So now that we’ve established Aubrey as someone with respectable opinions on the other football, let’s get to his picks for the Euro 2024 final and the Copa América final.

Between Spain and England, Aubrey begrudgingly chose Spain to win the Euro 2024 final. He said he wanted England to win, but expects Spain to win, so Spain it is! As for the man of the tournament, Aubrey chose Danny Olmo.

I got Danny Olmo for Spain, coming off the bench scoring important goals, just looking world class and finally getting the start that he deserves,” said Aubrey.

Between Colombia and Argentina, Aubrey chose Colombia to win this year’s Copa América final. “I think Colombia’s been playing better ball, but we got Messi out there, it’s tough to root against them, but I’m gonna go with Colombia on that,” said Aubrey. As for the man of the tournament, “it’s the Argentinian strikers for me”, said Aubrey.

The Euro 2024 final between Spain and England is this Sunday, July 14 at 3 p.m. ET at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. The Copa América final between Colombia and Argentina is also this Sunday, July 14 at 8 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. We’ll see if Aubrey’s predictions come true then!
