Cowboys offered Micah Parsons an ‘NFL-record’ salary to extend contract
The Dallas Cowboys have been locked in negotiations with the star defensive end throughout preseason and his future is still up in the air.

The ongoing saga of Micah Parsons’ contract extension took another turn on Thursday as Jerry Jones revealed further details of the effort made to re-sign the defensive star.
Parsons has just one year remaining on the rookie deal signed with the Cowboys in 2021 and he’s holding out for a huge salary increase. According to Jones, he’s already been offered one.
Appearing on Michael Irvin’s YouTube channel, Jones said that he’s made an offer that “would’ve made him the highest-paid guaranteed player other than a quarterback in the NFL.”
“Nobody appreciates Micah Parsons more than the Cowboys or me,” Jones said. “Nobody has ever offered him more money than I have to play football. Period.”
“When we wanted to send the details to the agent, the agent told us to stick it up our ass,” he continued. “Just so you’re clear.”
As it stands, the Cleveland Browns’ Myles Garrett has the highest guarantee figure for a non-quarterback in the NFL, with $123.5 million. After him, San Francisco’s Nick Bosa ($119.9m) and Cincinnati wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase ($112m) are second and third.
“I’ve agreed to give more money than has ever been given in terms of guaranteed money than anyone ever has as far as a defensive player,” Jones added. “I’ve done that. Now, I am the cat that writes the check.”
Jones reiterated that he believed that he had settled the matter with Parsons, blaming the player’s agent for the delay in confirmation.
“My job is managing the check, OK? Micah’s got to do the playing. Where’s the least important part of this whole equation that we’re talking about? ... The attorney or the agent, OK? He works for Micah.”
“We’ve got this deal resolved, in my mind, for the Dallas Cowboys. We’ve got it done, and if the agents want to finish up the details, which he should [do] and do all the paperwork, he can do that. And we’re ready to go, but as far as the amount of money, years, guarantees, we’ve negotiated that.”
