Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' absurd response to sunlight problem at AT&T Stadium
AT&T Stadium has been creating a problem for the players who play there since it opened, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones refuses to do anything about it.
Ever since AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys, was built, there were questions about the issue of sunlight coming in and making it difficult for the players to see, as the field faces east and west rather than north and south.
That turned out to indeed be a major issue, one that’s come up every single year since then as the Cowboys players themselves tend to miss some important game-changing play because of it every season.
And every season, nothing changes.
What did Jerry Jones say about the sunlight issue at AT&T Stadium?
During the Cowboys' 34-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, there was one moment that wide receiver CeeDee Lamb should have caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Cooper Rush. It was perfectly thrown right to him.
But Lamb was blinded by the sun and couldn’t see, and even said as much after the game, calling on owner Jerry Jones to put curtains or blinds on the windows during games.
Of course, this is Jerry Jones we are talking about, an 82-year-old billionaire who doesn‘t think he’s been wrong about anything a day in his life. And fixing this literally glaring error might mean taking on some responsibility for the problem and, well, that simply will not do. Here is what he said to reporters when asked about the issue.
“By the way, we know where the sun is going to be when we decide to flip the coin or not. We do know where the damn sun is going to be in our own stadium.”
When asked about closing the curtains (yes, there are curtains and yes, they’ve just been choosing not to use them this whole time), Jones said this:
“Well let’s tear the damn stadium down and build another one? Are you kidding me? Everybody has got the same thing. Every team that comes in here has the same issues.”
“I’m saying, the world knows where the sun is. You get to know that almost a year in advance. Someone asked me about the sun. What about the sun? Where’s the moon?”
Add this to the list of bizarre Jerry responses. It just doesn‘t make sense to create an issue for your own players simply because you’re also creating that same issue for your opponents.
But alas, it seems we will not see a change so long as Jerry is in charge. And that goes for many things that need changing, but that’s another story. The Cowboys will be back home again next week to host the Houston Texans for Monday Night Football.
