COWBOYS

Cowboys to make trade move after all? Stephen Jones provides some hope...

The Dallas Cowboys are in a crisis, whether or not their owner admits it. But COO Stephen Jones made one comment that provided a glimmer of hope.

Hope. Now there‘s a feeling Cowboys fans haven’t felt in a while! And I do mean years - not eight weeks. At this point in the 2024 season, there isn’t much hope to be had with the Cowboys sitting at 3-4, a difficult schedule on the horizon, and the injuries continuing to pile up.

But, at least one thing Cowboys executive vice president and COO Stephen Jones said revealed the possibility that the front office actually just might still care about winning football games.

What did Stephen Jones say about Cowboys making trades?

Initially, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it quite clear they did not plan to be active ahead of the NFL trade deadline coming up this Tuesday, November 5. In fact, it‘s been the resounding chorus that the Cowboys are content to make do with what they’ve got on the roster ever since the end of last season when they let key players walk in free agency and didn’t replace them. Even just three days ago, Stephen Jones said he thinks they have “really good football players” and that the team is not just simply not very good.

However, with just five days to go before the deadline, Stephen Jones has said something that suggests otherwise.

“We’ll do business as usual. We’ve got a lot of good players that are going to be coming back over the next 3 or 4 weeks,” Stephen Jones said. “If the right deal pops itself up, then we’ll certainly look at that.”

There‘s no telling what “the right deal” might be for this Cowboys staff, but it does present the possibility that they are at least open to exploring other options. Let’s hope those options include a running back. Maybe even a WR2. The Cowboys are dealing with tons of injuries to their defense, but there may be some coming back as soon as this week.

If they continue to do nothing, it will be tough to hold onto that hope if there’s any still left in the jaded Cowboys fans.
