Critic-turned-believer? Shedeur Sanders impresses at Browns OTAs

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has had a lot of doubters, but he’s been changing the minds of even his harshest critics at OTAs.

Update:

Shedeur Sanders is on a mission to prove the doubters wrong and so far, so good. The quarterback out of Colorado has been in the headlines almost daily since before the NFL Draft. Going from being a first-round projected draft pick to sliding to the fifth round, Sanders is now in a crowded Cleveland Browns quarterback room competing for the No. 1 spot.

Sanders’ biggest critic admits being surprised

One of Sanders’ loudest critics has been Cleveland Browns beat writer Tony Grossi. And on Thursday, he spoke on ESPN 850 AM radio with host Tony Rizzo, who’s been a Sanders supporter.

Grossi admitted that Sanders was “good in the red zone”, but minimized it as being just “10-yard passes in seven on seven”. Meanwhile, Rizzo countered him asking if 10-yard passes don’t count? Sanders went 7-of-9 with 3 touchdowns and no picks.

“I’m trying to put it in perspective,” said Grossi. “Come on. Seven, he did fine. He did fine.”

Grossi also admitted to something he’d previously denied: “He’s coachable.”

“They’re coaching him up, all right. Maybe that’s why he looks so much...not so much...he looked better with the veterans than he actually did at rookie camp,” Grossi said.

The fact that the Browns are putting this much investment into their fifth-round pick who’s currently listed at fourth on the QB depth chart implies they see a real potential in Sanders.
