Cut Day: NFL Preseason cuts up until August 23rd
NFL teams had to trim their rosters down to 80 men on Tuesday. Coaches, and general managers will have another week before finalizing their 53 man roster.
The conclusion of the second week of the NFL’s preseason games not only brings us a step closer to kick off of the regular season, but each of the 32 teams around the league will take a step closer to finalizing their 53-man roster.
Teams trimmed down to 80 on Tuesday
NFL teams had to go into last week’s games with a maximum of 85 players, and will have to trim some of the fat again after the second batch of preseason games. Head coaches, assistants and general managers had to drop the roster from 85 to 80 before mid-afternoon.
Some players will have another week to impress coaches, but some won’t be as lucky when the cut deadline hits on Tuesday, August 23rd. Getting dropped from the roster during the second set of cuts is tough, because it’s difficult to find teams looking to add players to their roster on the last week of preseason.
Most coaches have a general idea of what their rosters will look like and despite the surplus of players going into the third preseason game. Not many teams will be looking to add to players to an already packed squad.
These are all the players cut up until this point of the preseason. The rest are safe, for now. The third and final cuts take place on Tuesday, August 30th.
