Dallas Cowboys 2022 preseason round-up: Marion Barber, week 1 preview, front office moves…
Former Cowboys running back Marion Barber’s cause of death revealed, Fabianich leaving the NFL for college ball, plus more daily news on America’s team.
Marion Barber’s cause of death officially ruled as heat stroke
Marion Barber was a running back for the Dallas Cowboys for six seasons. He was found dead in his apartment on June 1, and the cause has now been revealed as heat stroke. In Dallas, the temperatures will be in the hundreds all week, with highs of 104 and little to no clouds. When officials arrived to do a welfare check on Barber, his thermostat was set to 91. According to Barber’s attorney and friend, Billy Clark, Barber was in “tip-top shape” without any underlying health issues that he was aware of.
Drew Fabianich is moving out of the NFL and into college football
Longtime Dallas Cowboys scout Drew Fabianich is leaving the NFL to work with college football, joining the Auburn football program as the General Manager and Director of Scouting and Development. NFL Network’s Ian Rapport reported that Fabianich turned down several other lucrative opportunities in the NFL. Fabianich had been with the Cowboys since 2004. This is a loss for the Cowboys’ front office - they have always had a lot of talent on their roster, which is the outcome of good scouting (despite their post season woes).
Von Miller details why he didn’t sign with the Cowboys
When the Denver Broncos scooped up edge rusher Randy Gregory after it looked signed, sealed, delivered that he would be with the Cowboys again, they opened up an opportunity for the Cowboys to take Von Miller. For Miller’s part, he’s said he would have loved that. Miller grew up in DeSoto, and would have liked to get back to his roots, saying that he would have gone with the ‘Boys for less money. “But I wouldn’t take that much less.” They had offered a five-year, $70 million deal with two years guaranteed, the same thing they offered Gregory. Miller is now with the Buffalo Bills, who offered him $120 million over six years with $51.4 million guaranteed in the first three years.
Cowboys vs Bucs season opener: Bucs “hopeful” Chris Godwin will play
The Cowboys will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the week 1 season opener on September 11. Bucs wide receiver Chris Godwin’s status has been questionable as he recovers from a torn ACL he sustained at the end of last season. Adam Schefter has reported that the Bucs, who lost Rob Gronkowski when he retired earlier this year, are “hopeful” Godwin will be good to go by the Cowboys game.
Last year, the Cowboys opened the season against the Bucs and gave an entertaining show to all the fans, as the Bucs barely pulled off the win, by 2 points on a late field goal. The Bucs and Cowboys both come into this rematch with high-powered offenses. It will be another entertaining way to open the season.
