Update:

On Friday, star pass rusher Micah Parsons formally requested a trade from the Dallas Cowboys, amid stalled talks over a contract extension. Now, team owner Jerry Jones has responded to the defensive standout during the Cowboys’ training camp.

“That’s negotiation”

Speaking on Saturday, Jones downplayed the situation, telling Cowboys fans not to “lose any sleep” over Parsons’ trade request. The 82-year-old insisted that the move was simply part of the negotiation process surrounding a new deal.

“That’s negotiation - I’ve heard that so many times in my 30 years in the NFL from not just players, but agents,” Jones said, per DallasCowboys.com’s Tommy Yarrish. “Of course we all understand contract, we’re under contract, and that’s what we’re doing. We’re looking at adjusting the contract, but we’re under contract.”

Parsons has reported to training camp to avoid fines from the team, but he’s refraining from participating in group drills. The Penn State alum remains under contract for the 2025 season after Dallas exercised the fifth-year option on his rookie deal, which guarantees him a salary of $24 million.

“What y’all don’t know is what I offered him”

Parsons revealed that talks with Jones and the Cowboys’ front office began back in March. Jones confirmed the timeline and claimed that he made the four-time Pro Bowler a significant financial offer.

“What y’all don’t know is what I offered him,” Jones said. ”And it’s a hell of a lot more than you think I did. That’s what you don’t know. Micah took it off [the table]. He took it off. That’s very important.”

According to Spotrac, Parsons’ market value is estimated at $37.9 million per season. That figure would make him the third-highest-paid edge rusher in the NFL, trailing only T.J. Watt ($41m/year) and Myles Garrett ($40m/year).
