Will the Dallas Cowboys adjust Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb’s contracts for salary cap?

Just ahead of the start of the season, after waiting until the absolute last minute, the Dallas Cowboys signed wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott to massive contract extensions. Lamb‘s made him tied for the second-highest-paid non-quarterback in the league with an annual salary of $34 million and Dak’s made him the highest-paid player in NFL history with an average annual salary of $60 million.

Cowboys to adjust Dak and CeeDee’s contracts

Now, just seven weeks into the season, it‘s being reported that the Cowboys are likely to restructure both Lamb and Prescott’s contracts.

ESPN’s Todd Archer predicts that they will do so by March of 2025 in order to create more cap space in the coming offseason. They currently have $22.7 million in cap space, but as Archer noted, they will need more than $20 million to account for the dead money of three players - guard Zack Martin, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence and wide receiver Brandin Cooks - whose contracts will be voided in 2025 if they are not re-signed.

Next on their list of big contract extensions due is edge rusher Micah Parsons, who they will want to keep on the squad the same way they kept Lamb and Prescott. As the Cowboys have said they will not be active in the trade market before the November 5 deadline and, as Archer pointed out, they won’t be looking to do much in free agency (as usual), “keeping their top draft picks is even more of a must with how they want to build their roster.” With that in mind, Archer is highly likely to be correct in his prediction.
