Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was taken off the field in an ambulance at Paycor Stadium after collapsing during the first quarter of the Monday Night Football game from Cincinnati.

Hamlin given CPR on the field after collapse

Hamlin made a tackle on Tee Higgins, who was coming over the middle on a crossing route, and the Bills defender got to his feet but then collapsed to the ground. Players quickly called the medical team on to the field, as many from both teams dropped to a knee upon seeing the aftermath of the hit.

An ambulance came on to the field, and medics were giving him CPR before taking him off the field and to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Safety suffered cardiac arrest, Bills confirm

Later, the Bills revealed in a Twitter post that Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest. “His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment,” the NFL franchise said. “He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.”

NFL statement on Hamlin collapse

In a statement, the NFL said: “Tonight’s Buffalo Bills-Cincinnati Bengals game has been postponed after Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin collapsed, NFL Commission Roger Goodell announced.

“Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics. He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.

“Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

“The NFL has been in constant communication with the NFL Players Association, which is in agreement with postponing the game.”

“Please pray for our brother”

Bills quarterback Josh Allen tweeted: “Please pray for our brother.”

The NFL Players Association said: “The NFLPA and everyone in our community is praying for Damar Hamlin. We have been in touch with Bills and Bengals players, and with the NFL. The only thing that matters at this moment is Damar’s health and well being.”
