David Montgomery injury update: will he play for the Lions in the NFL playoffs?
The Detroit Lions have enjoyed a superb season but have been hit hard by injuries, with Alim McNeill and Carlton Davis also affected against the Bills.
The Detroit Lions were defeated 42-48 by the Buffalo Bills at Ford Field in one of the best games in the final few weeks of the NFL regular season. Despite the loss, the Lions remain top of NFC North with a 12-2 record and have already clinched the playoffs, but they must fight with the Minnesota Vikings (11-2) for the division title.
Dan Campbell confirms serious Montgomery injury
Although Detroit are enjoying a sensational season, they have been forced to deal with numerous injury issues throughout the course of the season. This weekend, one of their most important attacking weapons, running back David Montgomery, was the latest to be affected.
After reports had claimed Montgomery would be out indefinitely because of a torn medial cruciate ligament, head coach Dan Campbell confirmed the 27-year-old would be undergoing surgery and miss the remainder of the season as a result.
Alim McNeill and Carlton Davis also set for absences
This weekend’s loss to the Bills has therefore proven to be hugely costly, as defensive lineman Alim McNeill also suffered a season-ending ACL injury, while cornerback Carlton Davis will be out for six weeks after fracturing his jaw.
The Lions' defensive absentees:
The Lions finish the regular season with away games against the Chicago Bears (December 22) and San Francisco 49ers (December 30), before hosting the Vikings (January 5) in a matchup which could decide who wins the NFC North title.
