San Francisco’s Deebo Samuel requested a trade from the 49ers, shocking the NFL world.

The wide receiver has made it clear that he does not want to continue in San Francisco, already making a trade demand a week ago.

The 49ers, on the other hand, are not as keen to lose their high-profile receiver.

After general manager John Lynch addressed the media saying that he did not want to speak of details about his star wideout, he ended up making it clear that he prefers to keep Samuel around.

Lynch on Samuel: “He’s just too good of a player”

Lynch also mentioned that Samuel has been a game-changer for their franchise, in addition to being a valuable asset when it comes to character, “Got tremendous will, very talented player… a great teammate.”

Samuel, who is going into the final season of his rookie contract, is ready for a big extension. There have already been a few blockbuster trades for wideouts in the last few weeks, including Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill, and the 26-year-old will be looking for something alike, just outside of San Fran.

Over the weekend, the receiver was caught on video laughing and clearly stating a fact at a sign held by a 49ers’ fan that read “Deebo is staying.”

Jimmy G and Deebo: a package deal?

In other news, 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo would love to team up with Samuel elsewhere. “I would do that in a heartbeat, man,” Garoppolo said last Thursday on the “Stacking The Box” podcast — just 24 hours after Samuel asked San Francisco for a trade.

Deebo Samuel’s 2021 campaign

Samuel had a confidently strong campaign in 2021, catching 77 passes for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns. He led the NFL with 18.2 yards per reception and rushed 59 times for 365 yards and eight touchdowns.

San Francisco’s offense will certainly be affected without Deebo Samuel, and Kyle Shanahan might just have to prepare a different weapon to save his young quarterback, Trey Lance.
