Deshaun Watson reached confidential settlements with all but four civil lawsuits

The NFL is conducting its own disciplinary consequences against Deshaun Watson, who settled all but four lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct.

Houston attorney Tony Buzbee, who represents the 24 women in civil lawsuits of sexual misconduct against Brown’s Deshaun Watson, announced Tuesday that 20 settlements have been settled. He also added that the terms of the settlements are “confidential”.

“Today, I announce that all cases against Deshaun Watson, with the exception of four, have settled,” said Buzbee. “We are working through the paperwork related to those settlements. Once we have done so, those particular cases will be dismissed. The terms and amounts of the settlements are confidential.”

The NFL follows Watson’s behavior

Watson has been accused of harassing, assaulting or touching massage therapists during appointments during his time with the Houston Texans. And according to The Associated Press, the quarterback’s decision to settle 20 of the 24 civil lawsuits may not stop the league from giving him a lengthy suspension. The 26-year-old still faces discipline from the NFL, which conducted its own investigation into his behavior.

“Settling doesn’t give someone a pass”

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy commented on Buzbee’s announcement, saying that these settlements have “no impact on the collectively bargained disciplinary process.”

Another anonymous league official also told the AP that “settling doesn’t give someone a pass” and hinted that a lengthy suspension remains in place.

NFL to make decision on Watson in July

Last month, league investigators interviewed Watson and delivered their findings to disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson, who’s the former federal judge who will decide the QB’s punishment.

The NFL is expected to make a decision on July 27 ahead of the Browns open training camp.

Browns still haven’t commented on Watson’s allegations

The Browns, who signed the three-time Pro Bowler in March to a huge $230 million contract for five years, had no immediate comment on the settlements.
