Detroit Lions add a new reinforcement for the Divisional Round against the Commanders
The Detroit Lions will face the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round of the National Conference, with some fresh troops on the way.
The Detroit Lions, led by coach Dan Campbell, will face the Washington Commanders in the NFC Divisional Round. Despite remaining the top seed in the NFC during the regular season, the Lions suffered significant losses at different stages of the season, including defensive back Aidan Hutchinson and offensive running back David Montgomery.
David Montgomery suffered a torn medial collateral ligament and was sidelined for the season’s final stretch (in the loss to the Buffalo Bills and sat out the last three games). Still, the player has said he is ready to return for this postseason, making him a luxury reinforcement for the Lions' offense.
This Tuesday, the running back participated in the team’s practice. The outlook was not encouraging, as head coach Dan Campbell indicated that the injury would be the last game for the running back. Montgomery opted not to undergo surgery and focused on rehabilitating his knee to make it to the playoffs.
“It’s refreshing to try to get back into a position where I can help the team,” Montgomery told reporters. “I’m confident and I wouldn’t be there if I weren’t ready.”
The Lions will again form their fearsome ground duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, who have catapulted the team to sixth place in the NFL in average rushing yards per game.
