It’s the league’s No. 1 and No. 2 offenses taking on each other on Sunday Night Football and there is every reason to believe this one is going to be a classic. Both teams come into the game with relatively favorable injury reports, but it’s got to be said the high-flying Eagles just gave up their first loss of the season against the New York Jets such that they are now 5-1. The Dolphins meanwhile, have just come from pummeling the Carolina Panthers and interestingly enough are also sitting on 5-1.

Dolphins vs Eagles: The lay of the land

As mentioned above, this Week 7 clash is going to be all about offense. As the No. 1 team in the league in offensive yards, the Dolphins are currently averaging 498.7 yards per game, while the Eagles are right behind them with 395.0. It’s worth noting that the Dolphins and Eagles also rank first and second in rushing yards with 181.8 and 150.0 respectively. If they can maintain this rate, they will both become the first two teams to average more than 240 yards per game, and 150-plus rushing yards in a single season since 1970. With both teams on an equal record of 5-1, this could well be a key moment in their season as they look to continue establishing themselves as contenders.

For the Eagles, it’s going to be about defense

Despite the fact that the Dolphins have a lethal offense, it could just be that the Eagles possess the pass rush that can halt it, or at the very least slow it down. At present the team’s defense ranks fifth in the league in sacks with 20 and second in quarterback hits with a staggering 49. Though they lost to the Jets last week, that was more about the four turnovers that Jalen Hurts and Co. conceded, three of which were interceptions. Consider for a moment that Philly’s defense registered five sacks on the day. Another cause for calm is the fact that Miami’s pass defense isn’t that great. Currently ranked 26th in the league in both opponent passer rating (98.9) and completion percentage (69.4), the Dolphins aren’t as solid as their offense would have you believe.

The Dolphins have a lot of weapons and Tyreek Hill is a big one

With Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel continuing to cook up creative plays and star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa demonstrating he can execute them perfectly, much has been made about tactician and his signal caller. Yet, perhaps where the real focus should be is on former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver, Tyreek Hill. Heading into Week 7, Hill is sitting on 814 receiving yards which if you didn’t know, is the second most receiving yards in a team’s first six games in the history of the NFL. It was Don Hutson back in 1942 who posted 819. That’s to say that Hill has been sizzling and there is no reason to think that’s about to change. What’s more, is that the Eagles are a team that has struggled to force turnovers. With the kind of form that Tagovailoa is in and the target he has in Hill, that could prove to be a real problem for Philly.

Dolphins vs Eagles: The Prediction

Despite the offensive firepower that’s going to be on show on Sunday night, it would actually surprise us if this game turned out to be a one-sided affair. While it’s probably that many will be going with the Dolphins to win given the flamboyant way in which they’ve been playing, we’re going to go with the Eagles in this one as we believe they may just have what it takes on defense to stop Miami’s crazy production. A 30-28 Eagles win sounds about right to us.
