Dolphins 34 - 13 Jets summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 12
Mostert capped the game off with this 35 yard sprint to the endzone to sink the Jets to their fourth straight loss and put them dangerously close to falling out of the playoff picture. The Dolphins improve to 8-3 and have the second best record in the league, trailing only the KC Chiefs who have the tie breaker over Miami after their win in the head to head match up from Frankfurt.
The Dolphins didn't really run away with the game until the fourth quarter when the running game took over and marched all over the Jets exhausted defense. Raheem Mostert ran in his first of two TDs on the first play of the final quarter. He went for 94 yards on 20 carries.
The Dolphins gave Tim Boyle a warm welcome to his starting duties in New York, sacking him 7 times and picking him off twice. He will likely be the starter for the rest of the way, or at least until Aaron Rodgers makes his comeback. Rodgers told the Pat McAfee show that he is expecting to return to practice around the first of next month.
Tua would throw a second pick on the possession after which gave the Jets a chance to take a shot to the endzone. Tim Boyle, who made his first start for the Jets after Zach Wilson was benched, had his Hail Mary picked off by Jevon Holland and the DB took it back 99 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first half to deflate the MetLife crowd and put the Dolphins back in control going into the 2nd half.
The Jets offense gained just over 50 yards in the first half, but the defense kept the Dolphins quiet for the most part and brought life into a dead MetLife stadium with this Brandin Echols six six right before halftime.
The Jets knew they were going to have it tough against the best offensive team in the league. In the end their defense made plays to stay in the game but the Dolphins pass attack was too much for NY to handle. Tua got the party started with this 7 yard pass to Tyreek Hill for the game's first touchdown.

Tonight's odds
The Miami Dolphins come into today as a 9.5 point favorite with the Over/Under set at 9.5.
I can't see the Jets making this close. For as good as their defense is, the Dolphins are going to let loose at some point and the Jets offense won't be able to keep up.
Dolphins win 31-7.
Riding on Rodgers return
For as terribly as things are going for the Jets, there is still hope. Hope that Aaron Rodgers will be back this season, and hope that he will save the season for those who came into this year with such high hopes of having a four time MVP QB under center. He told Pat McAfee that he’d like to be practicing by his birthday which is on December 2nd. He is already jogging, just three months removed from surgery to repair his torn Achilles he suffered during the Jets season opener. To have a realistic shot at a getting a Wild Card spot in the AFC, you have to gun for 10 wins which means the Jets only have room for one more loss before Rodgers return. The reigning MVP did say that he plans on coming back regardless of the Jets playoff situation.
New QB1 in NY
For the second time in as many years, Zach Wilson has been stripped of his starting duties in New York. You have to think this was his last chance as the Jets starter, and now it’s time for Tim Boyle to take center stage in the Big Apple. Boyle is in his fifth year in the NFL, playing for his fourth team. He was signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted rookie, and threw four passes in his two years at Lambeau. He got his most action in Detroit when he started three games in 2021, but went 0-3 while throwing three TDs and six INTs. After spending last year in Chicago, the Jets signed Boyle to be their No. 3 QB after Aaron Rodgers and Zach Wilson. Last week he went 7/14 for 33 yards and thew one INT in the final quarter and a half from Buffalo.
Record setting year in Hill's sights
Tyreek Hill is on pace to have one of the greatest wide receiving years in the history of the NFL. He has 1,222 and 9 TDs on 79 receptions, averaging 122.2 ypg. The record for yards in a season is 1,964 set by Calvin Johnson in 2012 but that record was set before the league installed a 17th game to the regular season. Johnson averaged 122.8 yards a game that year, which is .6 yards above Hill at this juncture of the season. Johnson had just 5 TDs that year which is far behind Randy Moss’s record of 17 TDs he set in 2003 with the Vikings. Michael Thomas has the record for most receptions in a season with 149 catches in 2019. Hill has seven more games to break all of these records, although his 17 game schedule would inevitably put an asterisks by whichever record he does break, if any.
Williams bros lead Jets dominant D
The Jets defense is the only reason why Robert Saleh’s team is even remotely a contender for a playoff spot at this point of the season. They have been heroic in their efforts to make this team relevant since the Aaron Rodgers injury in Week 1. Their numbers don’t quite reflect how good they really are because their offense leaves them on the field for the overwhelming majority of games, but they are big play makers that have the ability to keep a team in striking distance just so long as the offense gets into the end zone every once in a while. Today it’s going to be up to the Williams brothers to make sure they keep it close for the Jets new starting QB.
Tua looking to get back on track
Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins offense has been slowed down in three of their last four games. At one point this Miami side was being compared to the Greatest Show on Turf (St. Louis Rams of 2000) and the New England Patriots team of 2007, but the have scored scored 20 points or less in three games over this rough stretch, and the seemingly unstoppable Dolphins offense seems like a shade of itself. Tua Tagovailoa is fifth in passing yards at 2,934, third in TD passes with 21 and third in passer rating at 106. His numbers make him a candidate for MVP, but if he is going to be a serious contender then Dolphins have to win big games.
Jets last week
Of all of the deplorable performance the Jets offense has given this season, last week was the most repugnant. So bad in fact that coach Robert Saleh finally yanked Zach Wilson as the starting quarterback after another apathetic first half. By the time the Jets got into the end zone the Bills we’re up by two scores, and Buffalo would only add to the demolition in the 2nd half as the Jets defense looked like they hung up the towel for the first time all season, giving up almost 400 yards and 32 points in the blowout loss.
Dolphins last week
The Dolphins hosted the new look Las Vegas Raiders, and had trouble pulling away from Antonio Pierce’s team. Tua Tagovailoa had another 300 yard game and passed for two TDs while Tyreek Hill had 146 yards and a TD catch despite an injured hand. The Raiders were neck and neck going into the second half, trailing 14-13 but two Jason Sanders field goals in the third quarter stretched the lead to a TD, and the Raiders were held out of the end zone for the rest of the day. Aidan O’Connell had the Raiders in position to tie the game up on two occasions but threw two of his three interceptions on the final two drives of the Raiders day.
We are live from MetLife
Hello everyone and welcome to New York where the Jets are entering desperation mode after losing their last three games. Their defense kept them in the playoff race for a half of the season, but since the midway point the Jets have been in a slump thanks to it’s inexistent offense. They look to right the ship tonight against the leaders of the AFC East and one of the top offenses in the league. Miami are 8-3 and one of the top teams in the conference, but questions still surround them because of their inability to beat good teams. The Jets will be looking to surprise them at home with a new quarterback starting under center.
