Dolphins 21 vs 31 Bills NFL Week 3 summay, stats, scores and highlights

Tua didn't have great numbers. He went 22/34 for 146 yards, but he was playing smart football and allowed his team a chance at the end. The Dolphins were marching down the field late in the 4th quarter with a chance to take the lead but Tua's only mistake of the night cost the Dolphins the opportunity to tie it up and perhaps force the game to overtime. 

It looked a lot better for the Dolphins who looked terrible through the first two weeks, but it's still a loss. They are still 0-3 and there are still a lot of doubts surrounding this team and their coach Mike McDaniel. The Bills however, survived a tough division game at home, on a short week and now move to 3-0 as they continue to look like one of the best teams in the league. 

The Dolphins forced the Bills to three consecutive three and outs, but on the third one, the special teams made a horrendous mistake and committed a roughing the punter penalty around mid field to give Josh Allen and the Bills the ball back on the MIA 35 yard line. It wasn't too long before Allen found Khalil Shakir for a TD to go ahead by a TD midway through the final quarter. 

Allen was almost perfect all night. He completed 22 of this 28 passes, threw for 3 TDs and didn't make a mistake all night. The Dolphins, however, did make a mistake and Allen punished them after the roughing the passer flag. 

The Dolphins continued to fight and eventually tied up the game when Tua found Tyreek Hill in the endzone early in the 4th quarter. This was the moment when you started to maybe think that the Dolphins might have a chance. Their defense was playing well, and if they got a shot to take the lead late in the game, who knows?

The Bills came out of the halftime break with the ball and made sure to retake the momentum back. They regained the lead thanks to a long run by Allen early in the drive and this short TD run by Cook to break the deadlock. Cook had a great night going for 108 yards on 19 carries and this TD, but at one point he was averaging 10+ yards a touch. 

The Bills had a chance to extend the lead to 10 before the halftime break but Matt Prater missed a 39 yard field goal and that opened the door for Tua and the Fins to try and tie up the game before the break. Tua found Waddle, who came into this game questionable with an injured shoulder, and Miami went to the 2nd half even with what many people consider the best team in the league. 

The Bills defense buckled down over their next few possessions, holding the Dolphins to back to back three and outs. Buffalo was able to take advantage and take the lead with this Allen pass that came right off the playground play book. He rolled left and shovel passed it to Jackson Hawes who made the catch and put the home side up a TD. 

The Bills responded like you knew they would. Josh Allen, wearing his protective visor after getting popped in the nose last week against the Jets, punched back and put the Bills on the board with a 20 yard hook up to Dalton Kincaid. The TE led all the Bills with 66 receiving yards and this TD on 5 catches. 

The Buffalo Bills didn't have it easy on a short week against a divisional rival from Orchard Park on Thursday night. The Miami Dolphins came into to town and gave them a fight, but Josh Allen's 3 TD passes lifted the Bills over their AFC East opponents. 

The Dolphins spent all week hearing just how bad they looked over the last two weeks, and they came out with something to prove. Tua and the offense got the ball to start and built up a 10 play drive that ended with this TD run from rookie Ollie Gordon.

The Bills struggled more than people might have expected but they improve to 3-0 as the Dolphin drop to 0-3.

Tua hadn't had great numbers but he was doing everything to keep his team in the game. Until the very end, when he had a chance to tie this game with with a late 4th quarter drive.

The Dolphins D did their job, forcing a punt, but a roughing the punter flag extended the drive and everyone knows you can't give Allen extra chances to beat you. A few plays later he found Shakir on a crossing out that he took to the house.

Cook has three TDs in the last two games. This one came easy as he took it up the middle and put the Bills in the lead less than five minutes into the half. 

Allen hasn't had to use his feet much tonight but took this one for 19 yards to set up a TD on the opening drive of the half. 

Allen was stopped for a 3 yard loss but Brooks was flagged for unnecessary roughness.

WE ARE BACK IN BUFFALO FOR THE SECOND HALF OF ACTION!!!

The Bills had a chance to make it a two score game, but Prater missed a 39 yard field goal and that gave the Dolphins a chance to go down and tie the game up. That's exactly what they did, converting on three 3rd downs, and finishing the half with a TD pass to Waddle who came into the night questionable with a shoulder injury. 

Tua had 66 yards on 12/18 passing and this TD. IT's been the run game that has really set the tone. Achane has 35 yards to lead the ground game that has totaled 65 yards. 

The Bills defense buckled down and held the Dolphins to three and out on two straight drives. The Bills took it down field and took the lead after the first three and out and Allen finished it off with a shovel pass to Hawes to put the Bills ahead. 

Allen goes to half with 97 yards and 2 TDs on 11/13 passing. 

The Bills responded exactly who you would have expected them to. They had a balanced attack of Cook on the ground and Allen in the air, and the MVP connected with Kincaid for a 20 yard TD pass to tie the game up. 

All the Dolphins heard all week long is how bad they have looked for the first two weeks of the season and they looked like an angry team to start this game. They drove right down the field on a 10 play scoring drive and rookie Ollie Gordon punched it in with a 2 yard TD to put the Dolphins up.

The Bills respond with a professional drive to open their night. They got Cook involved early, then Kincaid took over and finished off the possession with a 20 yard TD catch and run.

Tua in awe of Allen

Forget about the stats, or the head to head record or the MVP that Allen won last season. When comparing these two QBs, there is something much more fundamental that differentiates them, and we don’t have to analyze it. Tua Tagovailoa spelled it out in a press conference leading up to tonight’s game. “Dude, he’s top-tier,” Tagovailoa said Tuesday, per ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jaques. “If it’s not with his arm it’s with his legs — that dude can do anything he wants.”

“I can’t do half of what he does in terms of running the ball … It’s gonna be fun to get to see him, get to play him again,” he added.

McDaniel on the hot seat? 

Apparently Mike McDaniel seat is getting awfully hot on the sidelines of South Beach. The Dolphins have been desperately underwhelming especially in big games when it matters and fingers are starting to point at the head coach. There were reports that McDaniel was on the hot seat before the season even started. Since then the Dolphins have lost two games, and looked like a team that is not ready to compete for the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl. Buffalo is the last place you want to go to cool the hot seat down. Depending on how the team looks tonight, this could be the last time we see McDaniel on the sidelines for Miami. 

Fins vs. Bills recent history 

The Bills have been great for the last half decade, if not more. The Dolphins have had their ups and downs, but even when the Dolphins were figured to be a competitive team in the AFC, the Bills had their number. Buffalo has won six straight games and 13 of the last 14 matchups. Josh Allen is 13-2 since he became the starting QB in Buffalo and the Bills haven’t lost a game against their rivals from South Beach since 2016. It’s Thursday night and the Bills will be wanting to not only put on a show for the home fans but stretch their streak to seven straight tonight. 

Allen’s new look 

The only scare the Bills had on Sunday in New York came when Josh Allen took a shot to the nose at the end of the first quarter of the game against the Jets. On a scramble up the middle, the MVP QB was hit inside the helmet be a flailing arm, and immediately went to the sideline with blood streaming down his face. The diagnosis a banged up nose that’s not broken, but does making him look like a Bosa Brother (his words not mine). The remedy: a clear visor that Allen will wear for at least the next few weeks. He’s never worn one before and it might have an affect on how he can see the field, but he’s an MVP, I’m sure he’ll be fine. 

Waddle hobbled

The Dolphins offense started to click last week as Tua locked in and dropped a 300 yard game for the first time this season. Tyreek Hill accounted for most of those yards, but Jaylen Waddle had 68 yards and a TD on five catches. He injured his shoulder in Week 1 against the Colts, but played in the Dolphins game last week. He was limited in practice this week and was listed as questionable for tonight’s game. He will play but remember it’s a game on a short week, and Waddle hasn’t had much time to rest that shoulder. That means Tyreek Hill could have an even bigger impact on tonight’s game. He will be tying to out perform Keon Coleman who has turned into one of Josh Allen’s favorite targets. 

Bills D depleted tonight 

While this game should be a blowout when you look at it on paper, let’s keep in mind that the Bills are a bit banged up coming into to this game on a short week. Two of their best defenders will be out tonight and that could be a big hit to the Bills ability to slow down Tua and the Dolphins offense. Linebacker Matt Milano suffered a pectoral injury last week in New York and he is most likely going to miss this game and a few more at least. Ed Oliver is a run stopper and a that is set to miss a second straight week with an ankle injury. The Bills were ok without Oliver last week, and without Milano in the second half, but the Dolphins offense is another beast when they are clicking. 

Star watch: Bills 

Who else would we put in the star watch portion of the pregame preview than Josh Allen? He is the league’s reigning MVP, and the favorite to repeat this season after the first two weeks of the campaign. He tossed two TDs and almost 400 yards in the heroic come back win over Lamar Jackson and the Ravens then had a light day against the Jets last week. He had 148 yards completing 14 of his 25 passes. The Bills would actually perfect those kinds of games than the ones he has to put on his super hero cape and lift his team to a win. Allen has shown he is capable of both, and this year he has the cast around him that might be able to take some of the load of his shoulders and help lead this team back to the Super Bowl for the first time in three decades. 

Star watch: Dolphins 

At one time, not so long ago, the Miami Dolphins offense was the most feared in the league. Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle were slicing defenses apart and putting up historic numbers. Since then this unit has become a bit diluted for whatever reason. Obviously injuries have played a part, especially to Tua who has been on and off the injury list for the last few seasons. We saw flashes of that offense that dazzled defenses a few years ago on Sunday in Foxborough and with the defensive problems they have in South Beach, lighting up the scoreboard might be the only way the Fins can get in the win column. 

Last week: Bills 

After an instant classic to start the season, the Bills brushed off their big win over Baltimore and set their sights on a road division game in New York. They went into the Meadowlands and dominated the Jets from start to finish. They went up 20-0 in the first 20 minutes of the game and never looked back. The defense locked Justin Fields down, allowing just 19 yards before the halftime break. James Cook carried the load the rest of the way, going for 132 yards and 2 TDs on 21 carries. They went on to win 30-10 in a cozy divisional win on the road to improve to 2-0. 

Last week: Dolphins

Last week Miami was more competitive than they were in they season opener against the Colts, but that didn’t do much to comfort Fins fans. Tua and the offense woke up after a dormant Week 1 performance in Indy. Tagovailoa thew fo 300+ yards, and Tyreek Hill had 109 yards rushing, but that still wasn’t enough to top the Patriots at home. For the second straight week Miami allowed 33 points, and that was the downfall for the Dolphins. While the defense didn’t hold down their end of the bargain, the game changing play was the kick return for a TD just seconds after Miami took a punt return to the house. It’s been an ugly two weeks to start the season, and tonight it could get even uglier if coach Mike McDaniel can’t figure out a way to turn things around in Buffalo. 

We are live from Orchard Park 

Hello everyone and welcome to Buffalo where the Bills return home looking maybe the best team in the league after beating the Baltimore Ravens to kick off the season and then they blew out the Jets last week in the Meadowlands. Josh Allen is looking like the MVP that he is, the defense locked down against New York, and James Cook brings a perfect balance to an already explosive offense. Now one of the top teams in the league comes back home looking to keep the train rolling against the the Miami Dolphins who are on the opposite end of the NFL spectrum. Nothing has gone right for the Fins and now they have to go to Buffalo and take on a team that has had since Josh Allen got to town.

It’s an all AFC East showdown to start Week 3 from Orchard Park. It’s an age old rivalry, between two teams that flat out don’t like each other, but recent matchups have been dominated by one team for the last decade.
