The Thanksgiving Day slate comes to a close from Green Bay as the Packers take on the Miami Dolphins to wrap up the holiday from Lambeau Field.
STACY REVEREAFP

Right around the time you’ll be waking up from the tryptophan slumber, and your stomach starts rumbling for a leftovers sandwich the NFL’s final Thanksgiving game will be kicking off from historic Lambeau Field. It’s the Miami Dolphins taking on the Packers from Green Bay in what is expected to be a frigid night from the Frozen Tundra.

Matchup: Dolphins vs. Packers

The 5-6 Miami Dolphins are back to looking like the offensive juggernaut we came to know them as when Tua Tagovailoa was running the league’s most potent and explosive offense. As you know, concussion problems have plagued him for the last few years, and forced him to miss time early this season. The Dolphins struggled to cope without Tua, losing three of four games. Tua came back, and didn’t take much time to get back in rhythm, but Miami lost both games to the Cardinals and the Bills in the two games following his return. That put them in a position where they can only afford one loss, at most, for the rest of the way. So far so good, as the Dolphins have rattled off three straight wins over the Rams, Raiders and Patriots. This is could be a make or break for the Dolphins who are looking for a win that might spring a late season into the playoff picture in the AFC.

The 8-3 Packers might be in third place in what is proving to be the best division in football, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t one of the best teams in the conference. Having said that, we really hadn’t seen the best of the Packers until last week when they played San Francisco and played a complete 60 minutes of football. For the first time we saw them firing on all cylinders. Josh Jacobs scored a hat trick of touchdowns in a 100 yard rushing night, Jordan Love had an efficient 2 TD night while showing the chemistry between he and his receivers is growing by the week and the defense was dominant despite the absence of Jaire Alexander who is likely to have to miss a few more weeks with a knee injury. The Packers are a good team, but not yet considered an elite team in the NFC. Their three losses on the season have come against the three teams that are above them in the NFC. Thursday night is going to be a great chance to beat a good team in front of a national audience.

These two inter-conference rivals have been around the league for a long time, but they have only met 16 times since their first meeting in 1971. Miami leads the all time series 10-6 winning the first eight games, and nine of the first ten meetings, but since then the Packers have taken control of the series. Green Bay has won six of the last seven including the last match up thees two teams played on Christmas Day of 2022.

Odds, spread, over/under

It’s a short week and the Dolphins are going to have to go into the cold weather to keep their winning streak up against a Packers team that is looking like they are finding their stride. Green Bay is a three point favorite with the Over/Under set at 47 on cold night in the Tundra.

  • Dolphins vs. Packers spread: Packers -3
  • Dolphins vs. Packers over/under: 47 points
  • Dolphins vs. Packers money line: Dolphins +146, Packers -174

Prediction

This one seems like a toss up for me. The Dolphins offense is back to looking like a juggernaut and they are going up against a defense that is missing their leader. The question is, how do they handle the cold weather? There is no forecast of snow, and the wind shouldn’t be too bad, which will help, but it’s still a Miami team in Green Bay in late November. These are the games that the Dolphins have needed to win, but they haven’t been able to over the last few years. I think Tua and the Dolphins go into Lambeau and light it up on Thanksgiving night.

Dolphins win 33-19.
