Dolphins 15 vs 28 Steelers summary, stats, score and highlights | NFL Week 15

Former Dolphin Jonnu Smith took a toss into the end zone against his old team and capped this game off with the fourth straight TD drive. MIA would score a couple meaningless TDs late in the 4th but had their four game win streak snapped and had their playoff window close. The Steelers lead the AFC North by a game over the Ravens but all signs point to that Week 18 matchup to close out the season. 

Rodgers ended the night 23/27 with 224 yards and 2 TDs for a second straight great game for the 4 time MVP. This throw was ok, but it was DK Metcalf doing the dirt work, shaking off a defender and fighting his way into the end zone. 

Rodgers was on fire all night. He didn't have to throw it too many times with the ground game dominating but he was on target with almost every throw. He hit MVS in the end zone to lead scoring drives to end the 1st half and start the second half. 

The Steelers finally got on the board, but it took them almost 30 minutes to do so. Connor Heyward was the one who punched the TD in on the tush push and that would start a streak of TD drives that would define the game in Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Steelers needed a win to stay at the top of the AFC North, and they breezed past the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football. Aaron Rodgers thew three TDs in the 28-15 win as the defense kept Miami quiet all night. 

It was the defense that came up with the first big play of the night, when Asante Samuel Jr. picked off Tua Tagovailoa early in the first quarter. PIT held Miami to less than 100 yards through three quarters and finally let their foot of the gas in the final 15 minutes. 

Tua to Dulcich and he gets a nice gain but that is going to do it here from PIT.

Aaron Rodgers is 13/14 for 105 yards, while the run game has combined for just 27 yards.

This is about the extent of the highlights for Miami. Patterson put them on the board and they would old on to that lead until the final seconds of the half. 

The Dolphins haven't done much on the offensive end. On the drive that they did get into PIT territory Tua got picked by Samuel. Tua is 5/8 for 61 yards, and the Dolphins gained just over 100 yards in the first half.

What's left: Steelers

The Steelers have the lead in the AFC North but not by much and they have a game against the Baltimore Ravens to end the season which could be a play in game depending how the next few weeks go. Before that, they have tonight's game against Miami, and then hit the road for games against the Detroit Lions and the Cleveland Browns. They finish the season back home with what could be one of the games of the year from against the Baltimore Ravens. 

What's left: Dolphins

The Dolphins know it's win or go home for the rest of the way. First they have to get through tonight before returning home for games against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Tampa Bay Bucs and then hit the road for a divisional game against the New England Patriots. There is no room for error. There is no time to lose. They have to start with tonight’s game and then turn their attention to the final three games of the season. 

Watt out with collapsed lung

The Steelers know how important this game is in term of playoff chances, but they will be without one of the heart's and soul’s of this team for tonight’s Monday Night Matchup. T.J. Watt went to the hospital after feeling some “lung discomfort” and ended up having surgery for a partially collapsed lung that he sustained during a dry needling session as the team’s practice facility. While he has been confirmed out for tonight’s game it’s not clear when he will be back and ready to play as coach Tomlin and the Steelers are more concerned with Watt making a full recovery before he even thinks about returning to the field. Watt was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2021, a four time first time All-Pro Member, and the shared record holder for sacks in a season with 22.5. 

AFC Standings

Taking a look at the AFC Standings, neither of these teams has a chance of catching the top seeded Denver Broncos who have won their last 11 games. The Steelers are likely going to have to rely on winning the division to ensure they get into the postseason. They currently lead the Ravens by a half game, and with the tie breaker in hand that half game seems like an even wider margin. The Dolphins have no hope for a division title which means they are going to have to catch up to the Buffalo Bills, the LA Chargers and the Houston Texans who are currently occupying the three Wild Card spots. 

Star watch: Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers went all in on a future Hall of Fame quarterback, and while there have been some bumps in the road he has the Steelers on top of the AFC North at the moment, and has proved that he can still make the big plays in big moments when he needs to. His numbers aren't exceptional, but with a good defense and a decent run game they don’t have to be MVP-like stats from Rodgers. He’s got 2,370 yards, 20 TDs and 7 INTs this season, and right now Pittsburgh is just as likely to make a Super Bowl run as any team in the AFC now that the Chiefs and the Ravens seem to be falling behind the rest of the pack. 

Star watch: Dolphins

There was a moment in time in which the Miami Dolphins looked to have one of the best offenses in the league and Tua Tagovailoa was at the forefront of the Miami juggernaut. That's not exactly the case anymore but lately he’s doing just enough to win games. During this four game win streak he hasn’t passed for more than 200 yards in any game, but he is keeping his turnover down and letting the defense do the heavy lifting. IN the four game win streak, the Dolphins defense is giving up an average of 13 points per game. If they can manage that again tonight, they could stretch their win streak out to five straight games and stay in the playoff race. 

Steelers last game 

The Steelers had a 1 vs. 2 matchup in the AFC North as they went into Baltimore for a divisional showdown against the Ravens. The Steelers went up early with a couple of rushing TDs from Aaron Rodgers and Kenneth Gainwell, and they would just about hold on to the lead for the rest of the way. Aaron Rodgers went for 284 yards passing, one TD in the air and another on the ground, but Lamar Jackson and the Ravens would attempt a comeback in the 2nd half and almost completed the comeback but the defining play of the game came in the fourth quarter when it looked like Lamar Jackson hit Isaiah Likely in the end zone for a go ahead TD, but the call was reviewed and reversed an the Ravens would eventually turn it over on downs. 

Last game: Dolphins

The Dolphins have been on a four game streak, but you must admit that their competition hasn't been the toughest in the league over the last month. They did stun the Bills in Miami to start this streak but then they played the Commanders, Saints and then Jets last week. The Dolphins went into New York and went up 21-0 in the first quarter as the Miami Defense allowed just one first down all first half to rookie Brandon Cook and the Jets offense. They did get a punt return to tighten the game a bit heading into the half, but the Dolphins defense would finish off the job in the second half and the ground game would drain the clock for the Dolphins fourth straight win.
